No Gas Mask - Continously Dying before Library.

Hi All - I've just come out of the Polis area (First ever play through) - I have 4 filters, yet no gas mask. I don;t want to go back through a previous missions for 3-4 hours just to come back here and get anhilihated.

I have a filter from a dead body with a key - but this isn't a mask.
Any ideas?

How do you have no gas mask? Is it just broken?

Press and hold E or G or something to swap the mask.
