Are the Redux versions really worth it?
I've played through the original Metro 2033 for the first time last year (I think?) and I'm curious about the Redux version. Now, of course the sale price is completely agreeable, but I've already experienced this story once. So even though I've watched the trailers, I'd very much like to have the opinion of the players that have actually played both versions.

Are the Redux versions worth the buy and replay; would I be missing out on awesome content by not taking advantage of the sales?

Or should I just skip the purchase and remain sated at the experiences I've already had?

At 12,49€ for the entire series? I'd say so.

Like, there's no titanic plot changes or anything. But they run smoother, have a lot of levels tweaked, and have some mechanics that got added later in Last Light. Like mask wiping.

Oh, and Ranger Mode without any patches or DLC stuff.

If you're considering a replay? I'd personally go for it. To get a slightly fresher experience.

There's next to no change for LL, but 2033 is quite different.
Little things are even missing for 2033, but characters will look consistent throughout 2033 Redux and LL Redux, so certainly worth it in that regard.

It's a different experience due to graphics and some minor gameplay changes, but if you've already completed one version you don't have to complete the other version.

The story, textures, animations, etc is entirely the same.

The Redux engine has a semi-global illumination lighting system, so it has more accurate volumetric lighting but seemingly fewer deep blacks.

The safe key stashes are new for Redux, I think the original lacks that mechanic. Redux might have a couple extra ammo caches too.

They revamped the achievements in Redux as well (got rid of the difficult Shadow Ranger when not using easy mode).

The biggest change IMO is that Redux gives you difficulty options for Survival/Spartan with normal and Ranger modes. Spartan is for an easier, run n' gun style of play like original Last Light. Survival has less weapon and ammo to find around the maps, harder stealth AI, and various other features to make it play more like original 2033.

The older version of Metro is basically Spartan mode always which means faster reloads, easy stealth (blind enemies), and more ammo to carry. This is because Artyom is supposed to be a more battle hardened soldier, unlike 2033 when he's totally green. It kinda of kills the spirit of game so they gave you the choice with Redux.

I don't like the changes they made to the character models in 2033 redux, and I felt the darker, foggier lighting in the original was much more fitting.

Redux runs better and has better AI though... but for me, that graphics changes were the deal breaker, so I stick with the original.
Wow, I didn't think I'd get even this many responses for this question lol. Thank you all so much! It's really helping me in the decision making process for sure. Anyone else that would like to put their experiences down are of course free to do so. I just wanted to extend my appreciation for all of you taking the time to share your opinions!

as someone that played both metro 2033 and metro 2033 redux, yes, it's worth it

The Redux versions tend to look better and be better optimized.
If you own the originals and they run fine then there is no real reason to get the Redux.
