Controller Sensitivity Too Low *SOLVED*
I've looked for information about this problem to no avail, so here goes my efforts and my solution. *This DOES NOT fix the X/Y ratio, however I will discuss my attempts and what I could do on that subject. *I am amateur at best regarding modding files and editing configs, I tend to only modify small things (like sensitivity) and I do so carefully. None of these settings should contribute to any problems you may face as you will see that raising them over certain levels won't crash the game as the game will simply revert them to acceptable levels.

I use an 360 controller to play Metro and for others like me the sensitivity was WAY too low regardless of the in game setting. I attempted to mod the user file, but whenever a sensitivity number is raised over 1 it reverts down when you launch the game.

The fix that worked for me was changing the controller sensitivity preset from 1 to 2 (THIS IS NOT THE CONTROLLER BINDINGS PRESETS! I AM REFERRING TO THE ACTUAL SENSITIVITY PRESETS). If you already are using 2 and it is still sluggish at max sens, you must switch it to 1 and back to 2 again (IN GAME). For the life of me I don't know why this works like this. However, this works for me 100% of the time.

My best guess is the Preset 1 is broken or locked to lowest sensitivity. However, that doesn't explain why switching away from 2 and back to it fixes the problem if you're already using 2.

Regarding the X/Y Ratio. The only sensitivity option in the config that seemed related to this problem is the line:

joy_sens_y_scale

This line is directly after:

joy_sens_x

By default you will see:

joy_sens_x 1
joy_sens_y_scale 0.75

As I understand it these settings govern the X/Y ratio. I've been able to raise the Y Scale, but I cannot bring it in line with the X. The best I can do is lock it at 0.8999, which feels close enough. I simply changed the '0.75' to a '1'. When in game I do my switch sensitivity preset to 1 and back to 2. After exiting the game when I check the config file the number reverts down to 0.8999. While not perfect, this is a far better ratio.

You may want to try lowering the X to put it in line with the Y, but this may decrease overall sensitivity which is counter to what I'm trying to do here.

This is as close as I've come to syncing the X/Y ratio and as I stated, the sensitivity issue is gone for me. The aiming feels quick and responsive and the ratio is improved so the minor difference doesn't bother or hinder me. I hope this helps and if anyone has better information they can contribute, please do.

There is an easier way. There's a downloadable directx8.dll thing that makes the mouse is raw inputs and it fixes the x,y as well as overall sensitivity. I'd link it if I was at my computer but do a Google search for metro 2033 redux mouse fix file .dll or something like that and you should find it.

To fix the disproportionate X:Y input ratio, you can use big picture mode in steam and define the controller to be a joystick mouse, and in the advanced settings, lower its horizontal scale by about 10 ticks. You can change its sensitivity, dead zones, and a bunch of other settings as well.

THANK YOU!

I play with a Razer Wolverine-something controller because I can't use the keyboard for long before my hand starts hurting (WoW days ruined them lol).

I couldn't believe how slow and sluggish the maxed out sensitivity was compared to mouse sense.

This fixed it for me, Preset 2 ftw!

This is the answer. Thank you, hero.
