This will fix the game wont start + game closing as soon as it start, for most ppl
I like so many others had a problem starting this game. So i digged into the .dll files and found a solution.

First you need to find out what .dll files that's causing the problem, this is done my running the metro.exe file from the steam folder Steam\steamapps\common\Metro 2033 Redux\metro.exe

In my case it poped up with an error saying that it was missing a .dll file named d3dx11_43.dll, and then another popup saying it was missing D3DCompiler_43.dll(It might be some diffrent .dll files for you, just write the name down so you remember which ones your missing).

In my Windows/System32 and Widnows/SysWOW64 folder i looked for 2 .dll files:

D3DCompiler_43 and d3dx11_43.(again this might be some diffrent .dll files in your case)

Turns out i have the .dll files installed, but for some reason the games dont recognize them. So i made a backup of the .dll files on my desktop and then deleted them from my windows folders step 1-3.

The next 3 steaps is done to delete the .dll's, but so you have a backup of your old files if anything should go wrong.
step 1: I created a 2 new folders on my desktop: named 32 and one named 64.
step 2: I cut + pasted the 2 .dlls from System32 to the 32 foler.
step 3: then cut + pasted the 2 .dlls from SysWOW64 to the 64 folder.

You dont have to backup the .dll's but just make sure you get them deleted otherwice the next step wont work.

step 4: After this i opened the file located here Steam\steamapps\common\Metro 2033 Redux\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\DXSETUP and ran the setup. This setup will install any missing .dll files and since you just removed a total of 4.dll files from Windows/System32 and Widnows/SysWOW64 it will reinstall thoughs 4 files. After doing this i could open my games without a problem.

Hope this helps some of you.

Try deleting the game's executable file and reverifying the game. This worked for me.

Tried it. Did not work.
make sure you delete the files D3DCompiler_43 and d3dx11_43 from both your Windows/System32 and Widnows/SysWOW64 folder otherwice the .dll installer (Steam\steamapps\common\Metro 2033 Redux\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\DXSETUP) wont install the ones needed for metro redux.

this is fascinating. would not work for me because my problem was not with any direct3d files. however, it was with msvcr110.dll, which is associated with visual C++. does anyone want to try updating their windows files after deletion or installing that file again
newcareernewtown Sep 1, 2014 @ 11:51pm
perhaps you could uninstall visual c++ altogether and then reinstall with the packages included with the disk
