Dead City Bug Bourbon Vanishes

After my first encounter with a demon (Right after leaving the Metro to the Dead City) i ignored the frantically calling Bourbon and set my way to loot the building on the right. I had done my deed and as i came back to grap his hand.... he vanished. I´m not getting over the water. Anyone else with this problem?
Do I have to start a new game or am i just not seeing the right way?

Reloading is not an option, the game saved in the building i looted

You have to go through the building. There's a collapsed wall on the third floor leading out, and to the other side of the river.
