Also, I believe they used the bad ending for the sequel because it made more sense in the natural reaction of humanity. When they perceived a threat, they tried everything to eradicate it. In that sense, the good ending was more of an achievement for the game rather than a usable storyline.
I believe the bad ending was made canon in Last Light because that's what happened in the book.
my point is that having enlightened ending is pointless, we literally collect all those moral points just to pick the bad ending if we want to stick with the canon. they could have just made it like in the book.
