Strange question: was there a demo for the original game?

I ask because I played some of the original back in 2013 and got stuck on a stealth section. Just started playing the redux version yesterday, and I don't remember playing any of the part of the game with Bourbon and going to the surface and all that.

So I wonder if I somehow played a demo back in 2013 (which included a later chapter) instead of the actual game.

That demo included the first chapter only. Redux includes some modified and expanded areas, The Dead City chapters, the one with Bourbon you're talking about, are now combined as one and expanded a little bit.

In the older game, did you get to the Dead City with Bourbon and then split from him as in Redux? I ask because I found an older post of mine on a forum and I mention Bourbon in it but only after the Dead City.

Anyway, it's weird how one forgets things.
