Sudden Death, have gas mask

I'm having a problem with suddenly dying. I've just left Riga and am with Bourbon. I'm at the part just after the stairs cave in and Bourbon has you search the bodies of a graveyard looking place while he opens a gate. This causes several flash backs to happen and I suddenly die at the end of the third one.

Any ideas as to why?
I have a gas mask on, interestingly enough Bourbon has his off at this point in time. I have time left on the filter according to the watch. But I'm still dying every time. I tried restarting the chapter but I have the same problem.

You need to move forward and help him. It has nothing to do with gas mask....

OK, I'll try that, I thought it was something related to that because all results of metro 2033 sudden death were related to the gas mask.
