If you want to kill one for the achievement, you can cheese the first Librarian by not dropping down into his area, just get as close as possible to the edge of the broken stairs and the Librarian should drop back down and can't attack you while you kill him.
But you are correct in that Librarians in Redux are insanely tanky. It's very tricky to fight them on fair terms.
but
Eventually I figured a way to murderize them all. That will come back to bite me later I know, "save.... life...." and all, but come on, it's only fair. I got killed ~20 times doing that one dumb level.
In the end, it required a timed combination. When you can get them pretty far from you, outside the blast radius of a grenade, hit one with a grenade, sticky or not - plain ones stick to them too? I guess they have sticky fur. ::shrug::
Anyway, once you attack they charge, so before they move, immediately hit them in the face with something heavy, I did it with the quad duplet or the hellbreath rail gun, which stuns them a second, and gives the grenade time to detonate. Hopefully the detonation knocks them down, but it damn sure doesn't kill them, no matter what anyone here says. A grenade on the face and a point-blank face shot from heavy weaponry doesn't even slow them down. It takes another 5-6 railgun shots to the face, if the thing was fully charged at the start, or 1-2 more quad duplet bursts. The one on the 3rd floor where you get assistance from an unlikely ally? He must be a boss Librarian, he took 12-15 Hellbreath face shots after the grenade! Never had enough time to kill him with the quad duplet. But eventually even he went down. The last two, you can't engage because that enemy-of-my-enemy fight, and then the one above you, are cutscene dealt with.
But yes I killed them ALL on L24: Alley.
HA! HAHAHAHAHAHAhahaha... ha.... ha...
ahem. yea. So there's that.
---
PS: Pigeons555... I coudn't ever cheese him back down. I tried a few different spots to get close without dropping down; the farthest "forward" I could go was out on that steel I-beam, he roars and pops up, and you can hear him stomping around, and the demon flies by... but he never dropped back down. I suffocated a couple times waiting, so it's either fixed or there's a trick to that one.
I'm not talking about anything less than Ranger Hardcore.
It took me much more damage, I mean yea they're killable and all, but 1 sticky + 1 quad blast = dead librarian = NO. Is there a more vulnerable hitbox than the head/face?

And just in case you don´t trust me this is Ranger Hardcore Survival, I can tell you following:
- The watch is the indicator for playing on Survival Mode.
- Having only two weapons is the sign for playing on Ranger Mode.
- Between 0:11 and 0:14 you can hear me switching between my throwables. In Ranger Hardcore, the HUD is completely gone, unless you open the journal. In the default Ranger Mode, you would see the HUD while holding Tab and switching between the throwables.
A head is usually a critical damage point and causes more damage than on any other body part, like in... literally any other game.
Next time, don´t suck at aiming and trust me if I tell you something.
I promise I am aiming! I mean the dumb gorillas just stand in your flashlight if the range is right; too close and they aggro, too far and they wander or transition between floors... even someone just winging it with a regular bundled wireless mouse could align a perfect headshot in 2.0 seconds, nevermind we're steam fps gamers and I'm guessing you too have a tunable gaming mouse with adjustable weights and DPI on-the-fly adjustment buttons. I'm no pro but I'm no 15% hit-rater either.
Well. That's irritating. It's something. I assume you're not faking it because why the hell would you bother? But after killing ~40 of them now, you'd think it would have happened by random chance at least once were it possible.
I have played Alley and Depository 8 or 9 times each, over and over, in the last couple days, and not once - ever - has it taken as little as 1 sticky + 1 quad duplet blast. It's frustrating that it makes no sense. Maybe it's a linux vs windows client thing? Although that would be the first time in history. I guess I can force the game to use SteamPlay (aka tweaked wine w/ DXVK + FAudio) and have it d/l the windows version. I highly doubt that's it but since it's a "tiny" 8 Gig game it won't take 20 mins to d/l and try... although I better just stop. I tend to get obsessed on dumb statistical stuff like this; they're killable even if it takes more damage to do so.
So yea, enjoy your magic, magic man. 🌠 Cause it ain't happening over here.
You take that whole thing a bit too serious.
The Librarian stands in my flashlight, because in the first couple seconds he's surprised to see you. After that he begins to get curious, wants to investigate you and comes closer. If I would attack him in this state, he would immediately charge at me. That's why I killed him so fast.
My hardware has nothing to do with that. If you're interested what I have, check my artworks.
The librarians work all after the same pattern (except the ones in Depository, they act always hostile as soon as they see you) and have the same damage values and health.
It also has nothing to do with the OS. Why should it be different between Windows and Linux? That makes no sense. Just take your aim better and you're fine.
When I came to this thread, I told you the easiest possible way how to handle them. I have no reason to tell you just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I'm already annoyed from the bitchfight between Steam and Epic fanboys who fight all over all Metro forums. I want to talk about the games, not about some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, that tries to destroy a monopoly by building his own monopoly.
The Hellbreath is btw the worst possible weapon to fight a librarian. It got heavily nerfed in 2033 Redux. In the original 2033 it was the best option. Two headshots with a fully charged Hellbreath and he was dead. That doesn't work here anymore.
I found the sticky nade + shotgun combo out, when I was playing the Kschatrya DLC in Metro Last Light. The librarians work the same way like in 2033 Redux. With the difference that thanks to the Dragons Breath shotgun ammo that you don't need a sticky nade. A good placed headshot already kills them.
Next time you can trust me if I tell you something. I made 10+ playthroughs in each game, 2033, Last Light and in both Redux games, have every achievement in all of those 4 games and I know every corner in them.
I don't understand the whole fanboi thing on both Metro threads, I guess it's the same thing I feel, because I don't want to have multiple gaming services, I mean I got so annoyed when Witcher 3 went GoG vs Steam at the beginning, and once it was over here, I ditched the GoG client too, I'd rather Arr Arr ARRR!! the games than run multiple services... so the Epic service thing, if that's all it is? That sucks. Because it's not Prof's fault, it's not any of the people who worked on the game(s) fault, it's not even the publisher or distributor faults. Well...
