Ultrawide stretched when in fullscreen
when in fullscreen my image gets stretched, and if I disable fullscreen in the game .cfg file, it beautifully renders the native 21:9, menus are correctly adjusted and all O.o
does anyone know why would this happen?

21:9 has been a thing with this game, not sure how it has been mitigated https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Metro_2033_Redux#Video_settings ?

By chance, do you have a second monitor connected?
Oh sorry, I've managed to get it working by switching to windowed mode (I think I had to use a command line, but I can't remember) and using another program to run the window in "borderless fullscreen". VSync broke and I had tearing all over the place, but again, managed to reduce it by tweaking gsync and framerate cap ^^
It's weird, the game has perfect ultrawide support, the effects cover the whole screen (i.e. when the mask visor gets messed up), menus are properly scaled and IIRC, even correctly positioned. And still, this issue exists, and it was pretty hard to get around it. Last Light does the exact same thing.
And no, I don't have a second monitor, just a single 21:9 screen.

Thank you for your (and @Jig McGalliger) attention though!

... i have a Benq at 21:9 ... it runs just fine. there is no such thing as "stretched" image in any of the metros.

FYI: it's come to my attention that Exodus doesn't support ultrawide, either. (This is why I don't buy games at release.)
wow that sucks =(

I've seen some people get Exodus working in Ultra Widescreen. Not sure of the details.

This is how I fixed it

Go to C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\4A Games\Metro 2033\ and edit the file user.cfg, set "r_fullscreen off"
If you're lucky it will already work, but on my system the image didn't fill the whole screen. If so download "borderless gaming" https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases and voila, it's fixed.

Wondering, playing the game at 32:9 (5120x1440) and nothing is streched here...

Yup, this worked for me; while modifying that file, I also adjusted the fov to 54, which is a bit better for 21:9. On my machine, it did not revert to a windowed mode, which is odd - it's still fullscreen, but now it is the correct aspect ratio.

If you fix DSR for your aspect ratio, you can play it in fullscreen.
