Dying while Bourbon Opens Gate

I keep dying while Bourbon sings while opening a gate in what he calls the 'graveyard.' At first I thought I was dying because I didn't have a gas mask on, or because my filter wasn't working. I tried putting gas mask on, changing it, and changing filters. But then I realized that Bourbon isn't wearing one. Yet I keep dying just as he opens the gate, whether I first search all the bodies or I go straight up to the gate and wait next to him. What is killing me and how can I prevent it?

That doesn't seem to help. No matter what I do, I start gasping and die just after the last cut away as the gate goes up, even when I'm standing right next to him at the gate. Even when I follow him straight there. Even when I crouch and go under the gate as it still opens. How can I help him, though?

Try restarting the level from Chapter select menu

I found I had died multiple times, and it wasn't until I sprinted each 'episode' that I finally made it to the gate.

took me ages to getthrough the gate, and i got through on a try that i was sure was going to fail. I feel the triggermay be a bit broken.

Sorry for the delayed response, I've been too busy to play this week. This is my first time trying to use the gas mask in the game, and I can't get past this point, so I keep thinking that the gas mask is what is killing me. How can I tell if my gas mask is even equipped and if the filter is good? I thought my watch might tell me, but it seems to be frozen. Or does that mean my mask wasn't even on?

I did try restarting the level like dcegget suggested, but the exact same thing happened when I got back to this spot.

If your filter is going bad, Artyom will start having labored breathing that becomes incredibly noticeable and will eventually suffocate and die.

Your gas mask is pretty easy to recognize, look for condensation at the top of your screen. If you press G (or whatever key you have bound to equip gas mask), Artyom will wipe his mask clean if he has it on. Or you can just try taking your mask off and re-equipping it.




As for the graveyard section, you have to be sprinting forward to get through the gate. It took me a death or two to figure it out, and the last dream sequence thing (where you are starting back in the red) is when you can see that the gate is open on the blue side (the side you are facing). Sprint through it and the cutscene should play of you pulling Bourbon through.

NOCTURNE I've done that several times already. I've even run straight across, getting to the gate before Bourbon does, but as the gate goes up, the final cut scene begins, and as soon as that cut scene ends, I die. I have watched it on Youtube, and the cut scene where he goes through and that Slenderman-looking fellow reaches out a hand never happens for me. I always die first. Well, I started the whole game over this time, so hopefully it will go better. I'll let you know.

Make sure you search for filterts to gas-mask and check time left. You notice when filters are out - "the gasping for air" then press the button for change filter and you are good to go. Check before you go to this problem area and search in the area for filters, before burbon go to the gate and the first cutsceen and between them. Last sprint to last gate and you will get it as long as you have your mask on and enough filter time.

Those cut scenes are interactive dreams...
You have to sprint to the gate IN YOUR DREAM. That doesn't come quite clear here ;-)

I know that this is late, but you have to sprint DURING the dream sequences towards the gate, if you stand still doing nothing you will die. They are not cutscenes in that sense, as you are still controlling your character. I don't understand how so many people have problems at this part as i never had any problems, not in the original and not in the redux.

I think everyone is getting stuck because a) it's not clear what's killing you and b) the dreams look like cutscenes and traditionally you can't control your character in a cutscene.

This part bugged me too.
During the dream vision you have to sprint closer to the gate.

I eventually did it by sprinting to the gate in reality and in the dream.

It took me quite a few tries.
