Ethereal/Tower Game Breaking bug

Alright, I'm absolutely frustrated that I have to post a discussion topic, but here goes.

I believe I'm almost at the end of the game, where you get the gun, and the quote, "if it's hostile, kill it". After which, my game crashes to desktop.

I've tried replaying the chapter, verifying integrity of game cache and troubleshooting compatibility (playing mainly on Windows 10, but troubleshooted to work like a Windows 8 program) but none of those things work.

Any solutions and help would be greatly appreciated, I'm so close to completion and don't want to start my game from the beginning...

By the way, it's more than a year later now and I still have this issue, after upgrading to a better laptop.

I just recently finished the game with the same issue.

I launched STEAM , went to "Library", selected "Metro 2033 Redux", right-clicked on "Metro 2033 Redux" to select "Properties", selected tab "Local Files" and clicked on "Browse Local Files.."
It opened a window to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Metro 2033 Redux\

I went into the folder of "_CommonRedist" and re-installed both 2012 vcredist versions. Also made certain latest Nvidia drivers were installed. Also re-installed DirectX for luck.


Then reloaded the game, after Hunter handed me the gun, I did not move at all (you have lots of time anyway) until the gun showed on screen. Fired away and then it proceeded to the next stage until you decide the way to end.


Once you decided a way to end the game and get your achiement. you need to reload again and choose the other option to get both acheivements. It worked again after waiting for the gun on screen.


Then I tried for a thrid time for sh*ts and giggles and it still crashed. May not be a perfect solution but at least I finished Spartan, now need to restart completely for Survival *knock on wood*

Just finished Survival and finished every acheivement that I had left to accomplish for 100%. I had no issues what so ever, I still waited for the gun to appear on the screen (Ethereal/Tower) before moving and shooting. You have so much time to wait.


Again, not certain if it was related to the fix I mentioned above but it worked for me. Hope my previous message above helps you also.


Now, I'm off to play Metro: Last Light Redux!

Reinstalling the game didn't work. I also tried your solution and it didn't work.

I'm gonna try one last thing; start a new game entirely. If that doesn't work, I give up. I'll just move on Metro Last Light

Dont use uninstall from steam library. Use windows to uninstall the game completly.
Then reinstall from steam library.

I bought 2033 Redux near release and years later, still cannot find a fix for this stupid CTD. so dam frustrating playing this game on survival and not being able to finish it!

well July 2021 and I have the exact same bug, He gives the gun, says "if it's hostile, kill it", then the game crash back to desktop. Everytime.

I downloaded another save file/removed all my preference, same result, so I guess it is the game.

Extremely frustrating.
