How do you use Stunning Runes?

Equipping them to the pouch, they're not selectable during combat under the Items menu. Is there something else I'm supposed to do to use them?

you put the stunning runes in your pouch, then select the items tab during battle and click on them. note stunning a target gives them a 10 second stun immunity window so you can't spam them.

Oh, I see, items equipped during combat are unusable, that was my issue.

Also, when people are saying "just bring a bunch of stun runes," they mean equipping them to every pouch slot, which ostensibly gives you access to multiple stuns at the cost of worse overall stats.
