Mahjong details
Is this the classic chinese/japanese (riichi) mahjong or the western counterpart?

Hi ShinjiKnox,

This is definitely the classic version of Mahjong! We don't have the proper spawn point setup yet (so you have to do it manually), but we'll work on that in a future patch.

Thanks!

Being able to play Mahjong with this was what got my attention.

Just realized I put "class" instead of "classic". Oops! Fixed my first post.

Hey, Kimiko, can you explain how much of the mahjong module is working? Discards, points and wall distribution are manual or automatic? Also when will it be released?

Edit: nevermind, it'll be released next friday. What about the price?

The price will be $14.99 for Early Access.

Mahjong is already in the game, but the way our game works is that it's "free for all", so there isn't going to be anything done for you. As of right now, the pieces are just spawned on the table, but we're fixing that up, so that the starting point will be like this: http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz352/loaloauk/Universal%20Singapore/Disney%20and%20more/mahjong.jpg.

Everything else will be done by you guys. So for those who are hardcore Mahjong players will already know the workings of the game and can use the notepad to keep score or write anything else on there.

Also eventually, I will have rules written up for each game mode, so that new players can try to play as well. But for now, it's easy to just look it up online if people are really determined to play.

I love Mahjong so I'm kind of interested in this :)

Cant wait till we can have the wall built automatically, i love the true mahjong game but most games nowdays are the find a matching pair sort. Its been years since i played so am going to have to reread the rules.

A few things I would like to see:

The corners of the walls should be touching each other to form a closed box (to prevent evil spirits from entering!).

Most western sets have numbers in the top left-hand corner of the "characters" suit (or even all suits) so that we don't have to learn to count in chinese. ;)

Only one of each Wind Disc is needed, and again, it would be helpful to have N,S,E,W printed in the top corner for us thickie westerners. The same goes for the wind tiles.

A Tong Box to display the uppermost Wind Disc, denoting the "wind of the round".

Only two dice are required; simply to determine the order of play at the beginning of a game.

There are way too few tallies for scoring and I cannot see a way to spawn more. Additional tallies (blank, maybe) would be useful.

The tiles should be correctly coloured to facilitate special hands (ie. "Imperial Jade"; pungs/kongs of GREEN tiles plus pair.).

A set of Flowers and Seasons are not required, but would be a nice addition.

The peacock tiles, I assume, represent One of Bamboo, but what are those other bird-like tiles with the chinese character?

With a little love, this could be the definitive online Mahjong game.

This site is pretty good for reference; http://www.mahjongbritishrules.com/equipment/accessories.html

Also, the blank tiles are usually supplied as spares (to be swapped out with the bordered White Dragons, so that they become worn with the rest of the tiles) and are surplus to requirements in a software version.

I guess those four other strange tiles must be jokers. These also should not be included at the start of the game.

So how playable is riichi mahjong right now?
Sparzy Mar 5, 2015 @ 9:55am
IDK, i regret buying this as theres no true sp mode (computer AI), sp is just u in an mp game. If they'd stated this on the store page at the time i'd never have bought it.

@Sparzy, but there are a variety of card and tabletop games that can be played as a single player (many of which are on Workshop), which is all they were suggesting. How is that not a true single player mode?
Sparzy Mar 5, 2015 @ 9:03pm
Single player with most games means you by yourself with AI bots
