Generally, we refer to crossplay as being between GOG and Steam. Currently this is not available on the live steam build. As far as our steam customers are concerned:
Windows, Mac and Linux Steam customers can all play online together, as of today!
Linux on GOG is not available at the moment because we rely on the galaxy client (really just the galaxy api) which GOG hasn't made fully available yet on linux.
And sorry, I was just a tad confused ^^
I also try i much as possible to buy games DRM-Free but unfortunately GOG is less and less an option for Linux gamers. Itch and Humble are often good alternatives as most games that are on Steam comes with DRM-Free build and a Steam key.
Apart from DOSBoxed games, there are very few games that lack their Linux version on Steam. The only one i can think of is Torchlight 1, released on Humble Bundle but not on Steam. GOG miss LOTS of linux versions. Just look at petitions, you'll find many.
To TnT Devs, thank you for explaining the situation.
I know some people are against Steam for DRM but them's the breaks.
