how to fix "you dont have permissions to join" in multiplayer

when i try to join my friend i get a message that i cant join because i dont have permissions to join

The first thing I suggest is to make sure you're both playing on the same version as each other.

I've forwarded this on to our QA team who will be able to take a closer look. In the meantime, I suggest you create a Public Co-op Game so your friend can join then just make it Private once you're both in the game.
