Need Help - Just got, but do not start
Hello,
First I would like to apologize for my bad English. :)

I got this game today and install it, but it don't start. I have it installed correctly and then I started it. Then open a little window where I could choose if fullscreen or not and which graphic quality I want. There I chose the fastest and click "Play".
But then only a black window opened.
I even left this field open for half an hour, as a friend recommended.
But still the game did not start.

I also uninstalled the game again and reinstalled and also restarted the computer. I also checked the local files for errors on Steam. But without result.

Does anyone have an idea?
I really like this game and would have to relinquish it reluctantly.

Regards Saphira

What are the specifications for your system? Do they meet the minimum specifications on the store page?

I have a Windows 10 laptop with 64 bit. And also the other requirements are fulfilled. (16g random access memory, i7 prozzessor and a better graphic card) The only difference is that I have DirectX 12 and not the 11.

Do your video driver is up to date?
Saphira__II Oct 14, 2018 @ 1:33am
Actually yes. All my other games are working fine...

I just checked it again and yes everything is up to date.

Unfortunately it seems that it is some kind of game bug (probably caused by windows 10), try to contact with support.

Ok, thanks for the help.
But I'm afraid that the support will not get in touch until Monday.

Have you installed the default version? (Rather than the Unstable.)

There have been a few reports like this previously. See this thread, for example (where a dev suggested a few things that eventually helped): https://forum.terratechgame.com/index.php?threads/0-8-1-crashed-on-game-load.16231/#post-114780

There have been issues with the game getting folder access too. Are you using an administrator account on Windows? (May not matter currently.)

Also, have you any virus or anti-malware software running that you might try temporarily disabling?

Check out their problem solving FAQ too, to be sure (sounds like you've covered a lot of that already) https://www.terratechgame.com/troubleshooting.htm

If none of that helps then you could also make a new thread on the forum about this, to upload your output_log.txt file and maybe a DxDiag.exe output: https://forum.terratechgame.com/index.php?categories/bugs.27/

Good luck.

Where can I see if I have installed the default or the Unstable version?

I'm afraid that I will installed the Unstable version, because if I follow the description on the official site to get to output_log.txt I have to search by:
C:\Users\*Username*\AppData\LocalLow\Payload\TerraTech
And according to the official site I have with it the "TT_Unstable beta branch".

How can I installed the default version?

To be clear, the "unstable" version should definitely not cause this problem. Especially given that it mostly has bug fixes. But to check and to switch:
How to switch beta branches
1. Right click TerraTech in your steam library
2. Select Properties
3. Select the 'Beta' tab
4. Click the drop down menu and select 'tt_unstable'
5. Close the tab and then you're done!

The next time you launch TerraTech you will be launching the latest unstable build. If you want to switch back, follow the same steps, but choose 'NONE - Opt out of all beta programs'.

Both the stable and unstable use that same file directory location for the "output_log.txt" file, now (I believe). So if you've not change to the unstable yourself you'll be on the default, stable version already.

Have you tried the other things I've suggested? (Or will you?)

Thank you very much for your help.

I have looked again and I'm sure that my antivirus software does not jump in between. As well I am the admin on my laptop.

I saw today that support had responded to me. This could tell me that it is related to a mistake with my audio driver. After deactivating all audio devices in Device Manager, I was able to start the game.

Now I have to wait until the problem is patched.

Oh, ok, cool. I thought from the sound of this post that it should be possible to change a sound settings to launch the game while still having audio: https://forum.terratechgame.com/index.php?threads/0-8-1-crashed-on-game-load.16231/#post-117801

E.g.:
1) Open current sound playback device properties.
(Type 'Sound' in windows start menu. Select the device and click Properties.)
2) On the Enhancement tab, see if immediate mode is switched on. If it is, disable it.
Now try running the game again and see if it solved the problem.

Alternatively you can try letting Windows solve it by running "Find and fix audio playback problems" from the start menu.
