do solar panels need to be able to see the sun?

like say i had a solar panel on my tech, then above it i had a weapons platform, and on the sides of it i had walls, would it still work?

As far as I know, solar panels work as long as that it's day, and that they're on a Base (an anchored construction), not a Tech (not a mobile construction), regardless of the surrounding blocks, though I might be wrong about some of those things.

Regardless, the thing that I'd suggest is for you to test it yourself (both with a Base and with a Tech).

They also work on vehicles, just put an anchor on your vehicle that can reach the ground.That is what I do. Anchor only works when you're parked on flat ground.

You can also use the solarpanel itself as an anchor, but it's less responsive to anchor than a regular anchor, therefore I advice the latter.

Actually the Anchor works on hills as long as the Anchor is at the highest point that is one "block"
