Wow holy crap a dev response......I love your game!!!!
I think fans/rotors/propellers are roughly balanced with each other in terms of the total block volume they occupy - their 'footprint'. In these terms the Zero Props only take up 3 blocks, while the Seraphim Nose Props each require 9 blocks. So one should expect a 3:1 ratio, for the same thrust.
The Zeros also have loads of attach points, so are easy to stack, plus look great. I think their power is fair, given all this. And I've seen them used successfully, just fine, on planes with decent wing area.
Yeah I just thought that a turbine looking engine like that would be more powerful than a single nose prop even if it was just by a 1.5 to 1 ratio for power. Now that I know to view them as just a cosmetic choice rather than functional choice that helps a lot. Manufacturing one prop vs 4 Zero Props makes more sense to get more bank for your buck. Plus if it take 3 Zero props to equal 1 regular front prop that still makes it take the same block space........
Confirmed.
I did some fairly careful testing, and a tech that *just* lifts off the ground with 1 Seraphim stays planted with 2 Zeros instead.
The Zeros do weigh more (2 units compared to the Seraphim's 1, from the data I have). But compensating for this, by removing 3 GSO 1-blocks from the test tech, when switching from Seraphim to Zero, I find that 2 Zeros produce exactly the same thrust as 1 Seraphim. 2:1. (12 x 1GSO1-block x g, verses, 24 x 1GSO1-block x g)
I don't know if you've buffed the Zero's thrust recently, Kris, we've not had a patch this year (it's still Christmas in our TerraTech
All propellers are too similar and that makes difference cosmetic. From my point of view it should be that VE nose should be 1 (ratio for comparing, not real strength) , HE propeller should be 1,5, both are 3x3x1 and VE Zero should be 0.7 for 3x1x1 (2.1 for 3x3x1 volume).
And GSO propeller should be also little stronger than it is now, at least 20% just for sake of early game GSO planes that have relatively heavy GSO blocks but not so good GSO engines.
one prop might be enough to lift off.
But is it enough to lift off with the extra weight?
They made me a nice general purpose runabout tech that will cruise continuously at 180mph. 😊
