Bad framerate on high end system
I usually get around 40 fps when playing (70 when not doing anything and 140 when tabbed out)
Fighting enemy techs drops my fps to 10 or even lower when there are several of them
game causes 20% dropped frames in obs (i use cpu encoding and its not even running on the same cores as the game)(is also the only game that seems to cause this issue for me so far)

I am playing at 3840x2160 but lowering the resolution to 1080p gives no improvements to framerate whatsoever

Changing graphics from fantastic to fastest does absolutely nothing
same for lowering draw distance to minimum and turning everything else off

Gpu: Gtx 1080 ti
Cpu: Threadripper 1950x

I have a similar problem, with the only exception being that changing graphics added a small amount of frames, I only noticed this happen after my journey to a salt flats (high spawnrates) and getting missions like "punks" and "gangland" which spawn in several techs. I'm fairly certain a solution is to clear out the techs, but if they arent nearby, more will load in on your journey so its a vicious cycle. I might just make a new playthrough because I can't use fliers anymore due to the lag.

i gain about 20 fps if i change the video settings from fantastic to fastest when idling, but as soon as i start doing anything my framerate is as bad as on fantastic

also when i press ''b''(build mode) my framerate drops to 5 at best and my tech isnt even all that big

i dont have techs or factories sitting around, i snapshot them and place them whenever i need to use them, then destroy them when i'm done

Same problem on Fedora 27 with a 1080gtx.

Certain situations just drop the frame rate to where controlling vehicles is cumbersome at best. The graphics settings doesn't seem to matter.

I have the same problem with the frame rate dropping to 5 or 6 I used to play all the time now it just is not fun when every few minutes my tech become uncontrollable.

@SpiralGalaxy this specific "every few minutes massive fps drop" almost sounds as if it is a core "parking" issue. ( discussed here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/846945579771381984/ )

Generally speaking TerraTech is very CPU (Single Core Performance [ http://cpu.userbenchmark.com ] S-Core Performance ) intensive. Graphics Settings will only help slightly as mentioned above, larger FPS improvements can be obtained by lowering resolutions which maintain the 16:9 aspect with the lowest available being 720x480.

Beyond that within the options menu another way to increase fps in-game is to reduce the draw distance, ~55% is the cutoff where techs appear on the minimap with a radar block.

Other things to bear in mind would be to ensure the windows power settings are tuned to "high performance" along with ensuring that Free-sync / g Sync are turned OFF as Terratech does not (yet) support these settings and that the "4gb minimum" RAM is what terratech *itself* expects above and beyond the 2-6gb required by modern 64-bit operating systems so machines should have 8gb RAM with 16GB ram significantly reducing the amount of page file "swapping"

Hopefully this information will improve your respective Terratech Experiences.

The problem seems related to enemies who fire lots of mortar. I also don't think the hw is a problem, my hw is way above the required specs for a game like terratech. If i7 4ghz, 32G ram, 1T m2 ssd and 1080gtx isn't enough to play terratech then they definately need to look over the code.

That said, this is a normal thing in early access since optimization is usually the last step after making sure all the features work properly. So we will probably see some work on this later.
