But yea, infact the keyboard controlls offer you more functionality than controllers do, like spawning tools, day/night cycles, timescale modifying, and additional debugging things (lots of these features have been taken away and brought back over time though, right now only the spawning tools work and I think the day/night cycle works too).
However controllers are just more convenient to plug in and play, espcially if you're playing local with people
At the end of it though, it's up to you what you wanna use. I personally prefer mouse and keyboard with this game rather than a controller, but I don't mind using a controller. Other people have different opinions and I'm sure you may also.
