There will always be input delay with Gang Beasts, although the delay is becoming more and more minimized as the devs release updates. It's more responsive in local multiplayer because you aren't connecting to a server.
Sorta like what Pybro said, just play on servers close to you and the input lag will be more tolerable
But no, the thing is when this post was originally made, online was quite new and had relatively low load, so if people were lagging too much it was usually an issue with their own internet.
Nowadays, the game itself is more the issue than the servers being bad - As all the data is processed server-side (which isn't how most games work, in case you aren't aware), there is inherently a lot more latency than is normal in games. Hopefully when we do get updates, optimisation will help with this.
