PC+PS2 Controller by Trust not working

I purchased Gang Beasts for the kids only to find out it doesn't work with our game controller.
It's a Trust (trust.com) gamepad for PC & PS2.
It works with other games but not with Gang Beasts.
I read that PS2 controllers should work with this game, so what gives ?
The game is only fun in multi-player mode. So we are disappointed :-(

Is there a way to config this game or otherwise activate it to recognize this controller ?

A friend bought an XBOX 360 controller to test the game with, and it worked.
But there's no point of putting the extra $$ for a $20 game.

Please show us the way to play properly :-)

well the alpha version of the game which is available for free on indieDB works with custom controllers but the early acess verison has not added non x360 controller support yet. if you want to have a go with your PS2 controller you could use the xbox 360 controller emulator which tricks games into thinking your controller is an X360 controller. it is a bit finicky so good luck but the only other option is to wait for the game to get closer to completion

it's a Beta Product. if you want a fully working game there are plenty of games that are finished. the devs will have the game finished when it hits 1.0

Where did you read it works with a ps2 controller?

Well, I purchased the game via Steam.
On the store it reads:
1. Local Co-op
2. Full controller support

This lead me to assume that
1. two or more people can play this game on the same computer.
2. there is support for all/most common controllers,
3. controller is not required for local co-op

There is no "only xbox controller supported" warning anywhere on the game page.
There is really nothing on the game page to indicate a very limited support for game controllers nor that they are required for co-op.

So, yes - I feel cheated.

You should not expect customers to browse through countless forums and user feedback for such basic information. Not even with Beta nor Alpha releases.

e.g.
Are the controllers connected via USB / other ?
Are these original PS2 controllers, or by other brand (I have Trust PS2 controllers)
Did you install or patched something ?
What OS make version do you run the game on ?
Are you running the game via Steam or the downloaded Alpha version ?

That is my setup, with the exception of the controller.
I guess I'll just keep on checking for updates.
