However they might likely only be avaible inside the Story Mode's Beat-'em-Up stages and not in the Melee stages (like Ring, Gondola, Buoy atc.) once that comes out later this year so they might not be added in multiplayer.
Albeit I like your idea of them fallig from the sky, even if it might look weird and it could be impossible in enclosed stages like Incinerator or Grind; maybe instead of falling from the sky they appear on the ground with a "POOF!" cloud?
The devs also talked about having special interactions with certain objects like violently opening/closing doors to try and slam them in someone's face but we don't know if those will be added...
To throw simply do what you would normally do with people: grab them, lift them after getting some momentum and then let go, however doing a slightly downwards throw when throwing props is helpful in making the throw stronger and better at damaging people.
In the clip from 0:25 to 0:27 you can see a yellow Beast throwing a piece of railing at the brown Beast with a backpack and they got knowcked out:

And I checked in slow-mo: the pink dude's punches didn't connect and the brown Beast's head got pushed forward by the impact in the same moment they got K.O.'d, meaning the item throw was what made them pass out.
So yeah, you can already throw stuff at people, but aiming is really hard because of the wobbly arms that make throwing unprecise.
Also, while actual weapons aren't added yet, hard contact with a swinging/moving prop can hurt people, jus tlike throwing, as seen in this gif made by IE:

Melee weapons, however, should have actual motions for attackings, maybe they'll replace your punching when you hold one? Still, I doubt it'll matter that much as most of the Story Mode sections where they weapons will appear will likely not have many holes that might make you want to hang onto stuff, as the Story Mode should use the classic fighting game logic for losing: "0 HP = dead", you don't throw people off stuff, you just beat them up.
Settings you can tick on and off before the start of a match(Such as Weapons, Stamina fighting system etc.)
Alterable Variables that can be changed before the start of the match(punch force, knockout time, Gravity etc.)
As for the controls of fighting with melee weapons, I think it should be done with the right stick to control it as it has gone unused for now
Albeit I don't understand how you could control weapons with the second stick, how would that work?
