Direct connect only joined you to servers made with the server tool.
The same server tool that is now redundant as they're replacing it with private matches.
That's my point. They should've kept direct connect (which I used to make servers for me and my mates) especially when private matches don't even work. If the game's this broken, it's not worth the money, even on a free weekend.
Yesterday, we tried with 4 people and it didn't work. Not sure whether there was a recent hot fix for that but from what we could tell you needed 8 people (assuming it would actually start with a full lobby).
I get why you're defending the game, it's good, but this is just embarrassing.
My opinion: The server tool should still be an opinion with direct connect or/and even a basic peer to peer feature to allow friends to play small matches with a low player count. Considering the private match system they replaced it with is completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ goes to show that.
I just find it stupid that the developers would remove a working feature with a broken matchmaking system on a free weekend (which exists to show off the game)
