You need to throw the opponent out of the stage (or into hazardous spots inside it) to win: knockj them out by attacking them and then grab and throw them off, try to climb back up too if you get thrown off but you managed to grab onto something and not fal down; the last player who survives gets a point, if eberybody dies it's a tie and nobody gets a point. Once the set amount of points is reached by a player (set at 2 for public Online rooms) then the game will go to the next stage.

In Waves the objective is to cooperate and take down hordes of A.I.s that get stronger and strongr as you progress, only supported in one stage as of now (Incinerator) but it'll be avaible for all the battle stages later on (so for Ring, Grind etc.).

I don't understand how I can climb back up, I'm spamming the arms buttons on my xbox one pad but I keep falling haha.

Hold down the punch/grab buttons and spam the jump button without letting go of grab.

Alternatively, hold jump, grab, move your character in a direction, and quickly alternate hands to climb up one hand at a time. (Holding jump and moving in a direction while grabbing something is how your character lifts themselves up. You can do this on walls, objects, even other players.)

You can also hold jump, the headbutt/flop button, and move in a direction to do a handstand and rotate your body to get up on ledges and stuff. (Again, you can do this on walls, objects, and players.)

Oh yeah, and it really helps to hold jump to run. Running is great for all kinds of things. Run + jump + HOLD headbutt lets you do a dive sort of thing that's great for clearing long distances. It also knocks people out like 99% of the time if you happen to hit them lol.

Some surfaces can't be climbed as easily. For example, doors and the yellow part of the container map (used to be climbable, but now it's "low priority" so your character almost never grabs the yellow part. You have to do a lot of jumping to get around on it.)

The yellow part on gondola is climbable though! Just be careful of the TOP wires because they break a lot easier than most wires so you have like a 50/50 chance of breaking one if you try to grab it.

Edit: The guide Dark posted is pretty helpful, but because of recent changes you have to move in a direction in order for your character to lift themselves. Otherwise, it doesn't do anything anymore.
Do people unbind the run and jump buttons from the same button? cuz I dont get how to run and jump without losing momentum
