Void War

Void War

Is boarding too OP?
I love the boarding mechanics but can't help to feel its kinda OP.

The system damage of killing crew in the same room is good but too effective imo.

As it is you can send a couple tanky units directly to weapons systems and destroy it very very quickly crippling the enemy ships ability to do any damage.

I think a balanced could be that the pod needs to charge before you can send it or it can't be sent unless certain criteria is met? Maby nerf the system damage on crew death?

Teleporting crew back immediately also seems a little OP, mitigates any risk factors to boarding.

Couple this with crew teleport / spawning abilities and you can basically cripple any enemy ship.

Maby having crew abilities be blocked until certain levels of shields have been disabled?

Anyone else have any input on this?

I super aware this is in early development so game mechanics are still being ironed out, I'm still having a blast playing.

Only played on default difficulty so far so this could work differently on harder modes?

Great work on this game so far Devs its incredible.

You should really try it on harder and harder torment levels. You'll see it differently.

But do weapons matter more on higher difficulty, or is boarding still the most effective tactic, even if it gets harder?
From my impressions there were substantially more crew on each vessel in the harder difficulty.

I for one am happier with the higher focus on boarding. Makes things more interesting than simply going pew pew. And I love having the ships packed full of enemies to kill.

I too very much appreciate the higher focus on boarding and the gearing up of crews. I hope it's not just viable on low difficulties, but maintains its strength later.
Remember this is that starting crew, if you start with a demon ship you'd have crap units for that. Enforcers look genuinely good compared to other factions

It feels less strong towards the end of the run to me but then I ended up doing a combo with instant charged weapons at the start of combat, lasering their crew (with the one that stuns crew) after the shields are down, and then boarding and it was insane. Absolute slaughter every fight!

Yeah, had a few encounters in a row with possessed and toxic ships. Boarding's useless mostly

It depends on which ship you chose, what kind of build you are going for or what kind of RNG you get. On the higher-most torment levels you just kind of roll with whatever you get RNG wise and try to build around that because the scrap is so sparse. Boarding is still one of the most, if not THE most, viable builds but sometimes you can't even make a build around that at higher levels because RNG just isn't pointing you in that direction. With boarding you also have to take into account that the build could be useless without anti-suffocation gear because of the amount of possessed ships or even half of the end boss battle. Which again leads into my point about RNG.
