Personally i don't mind it since it makes you to micro more which is OK. Since people left the game there hasn't beed any updates which makes the game pretty boring after 30 hours with very little variation, not weird although since the game was basically at its 1.00 when it got abounded
You also have to remember a lot of players will have played this when various abilities and equippable perks (very similar to CoH 2) were unlocked with playtime initially. They were later (mostly) unlocked for everyone to use from the start, but that didn't help the impressions of the game that already existed by that point.
Opinion (i.e. not moderator) post.
Gameplay aside, Relic really screwed up by dropping support for a $60 title in less than a year without a single DLC/expansion. I realize they probably wouldn't make any money with a DLC/expansion, but it's also about making good with your customer who has already invested in this title with the expectation of DLC/expansions, and may (or may not) invest in future titles. Right now, I am hesitant to buy any future Relic games because of the worry Relic will drop support like they did here. It's like when you watch Season 1 of a TV Show, and then the show is cancelled. Guess what...I'm less likely to get involved in another Series for fear it will be cancelled. At a minimum, I'll hang back for a bit to see where things go.
And honestly, the hypercritical players who posted scathing reviews helped screw the future of DoW3. No game is perfect at launch. Clearly DoW3 was released prematurely (probably thanks to Sega) with too few maps and game modes. And clearly not everyone was happy with many of the design decisions (although I think they were in a no win situation here...do they cater to DoW1 or DoW2 fans or try to do both...clearly both didn't work out well for them). But I think it had a good foundation that could have been expanded on with a DLC/expansion and a bit more polish/adjusting if people would have just been a bit more patient. People made it out that Relic made a crap game on purpose (I don't think it is a crap game, btw). Perfect world, it would have been the perfect game at launch. It wasn't, people pounced, and now we're left with what I think is a good game that very easily could have been great.
For what it's worth, the 1 thing that I miss the most is more races...I enjoy (or can live with) everything else.
My remarks are based on not being an online PvP player in really any respect, but I find it enjoyable. I think the campaign is worth playing, and stomping around with a titan is a blast.
It is not DoW I
The elites and doctrine loadouts, also, I think are pretty cool additions.
They butchered the cover system that make the dow series great and the scale was almost right. If they simply didnt cockblock everything behind elite levels, and didn't focus on the moba gametype as its main selling point im sure the game would have had a good bit of longevity and mild success. It was a misfocused and disasterous launch, if it went down differently the game would have been on its second or third expansion by now.
Agreed its on humble bundle right now so my friend wanted to try it out after it died couple weeks after launch he did not want to sspend 40+ myself......i was fool enough to get the thunder hammer edition
It lacks the variety of unit types and ways to play from dow1 lacks the rtt aspects that made battles in dow2 feel more challanging and rewarding. It attempted to be dow1 with base building but really jus feels like an after thought. And the focus on this moba hybrid ONLY gamemode it was just all meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh
For example you can't even rotate the camera as in previous titles, just to show how ret4rded this has become, and why? Because there's no need, so you can imagine how deep the gameplay and tactical options are. Even the tabletop with the 8th edition rules is better than this.
