I mean every Final fantasy has characters like this lmao nobody wants to play an RPG has an ugly old man, the characters are always young pretty boys
FFXVI's Clive was designed "for Western audiences".
In the key art Zinikr is the second-most prominent character behind Leo. I suspect putting a grizzled, middle-aged man front and center was done intentionally to evoke Daddy Nier vibes from Western fans. The only other work I can find by the designer is Terra Battle 1 & 2 which looks to be aesthetically similar.
It reminds me a lot of Huang-Tae Kim's work on the Magna Cart games, if anyone remembers those. People also complained the main character in that series looked like a girl.
The odd occasion they might give us a female protagonist, but that's very rare.
The heroes journey is about boys growing into men.
Would Star Wars be successful if in a New Hope Luke was bearded man in his 40's or if Obi Wan was the main character lmao
