That screenshot is a very typical old school Final Fantasy turn-based battle scene layout.

The menu is clearly designed for you to touch it with your fingers, let me know when there are mods that fix it. I know that the community made a similar mod for FF9 when square did the same thing there - dumped the mobile port into PC while keeping the huge blocky touchscreen menus. Hopefully some good Samaritan will make the same thing for this game.

I'm hoping some mod support does come down the pipeline for the game though. I'm loving it so far, but there are little tweaks I'd love to see here and there that I think would just take a great game and make it even better. Game doesn't look to have sold super well, so my guess is post-launch support will have to come from fans, sadly. It's a beautiful game, and some smaller UI options would allow us to see more of it while playing.
How do you expect abilities to be listed on the screen with the space that's available. Jeez, you people... Insufferable. The SaGa games are EXACTLY THE SAME.
The thing is that I'm playing on PC. I have a huge 4k monitor that is 2 feet in front of my face. I'm not playing a tiny box that fits in my pocket. I don't need the text to be in 72 point massive font like I'm a grandma with vision problems. I want the text to be small and neat and tidy.
It'd be like trying to play Elden Ring with the HUD like this: https://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/mods/4333/images/451/451-1648572073-618209094.png
I'm neutral on the other UI stuff. Big chunky windows with huge YES/NO buttons adds to the feeling of a world built from kids' toys. Yeah, it was originally a mobile game, but the aesthetic choices that went into the menu design go beyond iPad ease of use. I think it's supposed to be blocky and child-like.
Complaints about the controls are valid. The screen transitions in Fantasian are unique which makes the experience hard to compare to PS1-era RPGs. Yes, the backgrounds are functionally pre-rendered screens like FFVIII or Parasite Eve, but the perspective shifts are 100% different. For anyone who remembers Jade Cocoon, that was a JRPG with tank controls. Fantasian feels more like that, and it's weird at times.
There's no major issues with this game, btw. Just small nitpicks that could be easily smoothed by mods. I play in bed at night with my sleeping wife next to me, so darker menus would be appreciated by me as well.
