Mods?
I want to get this game but I see a lot of reviews calling out the mobile aspects like menus designed for touchscreen, menus you can only use by clicking, menus that are way too big on the screen.

Are there any mods to fix issues like this? I know the game just came out but maybe someone has already come up with a quick fix that makes the menus smaller at least or reorganizes them?

That's probably the #1 issue preventing me from buying right now is I hate this mobile -> PC port pipeline and the games always end up frustrating to play.

It's really no different to how PS1-era Final Fantasy menus looked...

No way, look how FLIPPIN HUGE this menu is, PS1 games did not look like this. and the touchscreen-designed buttons in the bottom right would just constantly remind me that i'm playing a mobile port

...That's not "large". That's an ability list. FF1 through to FF12 did THE SAME THING.
That screenshot is a very typical old school Final Fantasy turn-based battle scene layout.

Nah. Just pulled a random screenshot from a battle from FFX on PS2. The menus were half the size and still fit the same amount of abilities (6). If the menu in FFX was as big as it is in this game it would be able to fit 12 abilities if not more.

The menu is clearly designed for you to touch it with your fingers, let me know when there are mods that fix it. I know that the community made a similar mod for FF9 when square did the same thing there - dumped the mobile port into PC while keeping the huge blocky touchscreen menus. Hopefully some good Samaritan will make the same thing for this game.

It's insanely huge, I don't know what are you smoking if you can't see it

Don't feed the troll.

I'm hoping some mod support does come down the pipeline for the game though. I'm loving it so far, but there are little tweaks I'd love to see here and there that I think would just take a great game and make it even better. Game doesn't look to have sold super well, so my guess is post-launch support will have to come from fans, sadly. It's a beautiful game, and some smaller UI options would allow us to see more of it while playing.

I'd rather a list of abilities than a damn box of three columns like "classic FF's".
How do you expect abilities to be listed on the screen with the space that's available. Jeez, you people... Insufferable. The SaGa games are EXACTLY THE SAME.

The thing is that I'm playing on PC. I have a huge 4k monitor that is 2 feet in front of my face. I'm not playing a tiny box that fits in my pocket. I don't need the text to be in 72 point massive font like I'm a grandma with vision problems. I want the text to be small and neat and tidy.

It'd be like trying to play Elden Ring with the HUD like this: https://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/mods/4333/images/451/451-1648572073-618209094.png

And not everyone is like you, and there are STILL people who claim the font is too small.

The only mod I really need is a fix to the stick direction not working properly unless you stop when there is a camera angle change. It's a little bit annoying. I m playing on a 4K TV with a controller and I don't really think the menus are THAT bad

I wouldn't mind a few UI options. I turned on the Windows nighttime filter to cut down on high contrast elements. The bright white menu and full screen fade-to-white effect sometimes feels like staring at the sun, especially when playing at night. As an aesthetic choice I think it's pretty neat, but it's also sometimes visually aggressive in a way I don't think was intentional.

I'm neutral on the other UI stuff. Big chunky windows with huge YES/NO buttons adds to the feeling of a world built from kids' toys. Yeah, it was originally a mobile game, but the aesthetic choices that went into the menu design go beyond iPad ease of use. I think it's supposed to be blocky and child-like.

Complaints about the controls are valid. The screen transitions in Fantasian are unique which makes the experience hard to compare to PS1-era RPGs. Yes, the backgrounds are functionally pre-rendered screens like FFVIII or Parasite Eve, but the perspective shifts are 100% different. For anyone who remembers Jade Cocoon, that was a JRPG with tank controls. Fantasian feels more like that, and it's weird at times.

Movement should be an easy enough fix. Onimusha and Devil May Cry figured it out by having your movement saved as the camera shifts perspective until you move the analog stick. Once the stick is moved, the analog controls reflect the current screen's perspective. It's not perfect, but it is better than how Fantasian currently handles it.

There's no major issues with this game, btw. Just small nitpicks that could be easily smoothed by mods. I play in bed at night with my sleeping wife next to me, so darker menus would be appreciated by me as well.

I've mostly gotten used to it, but yeah the UI is too big even for the resolution it is in. Even the graphic images are stretched so there is degradation.

A mod to restore the original Apple version's script would also be nice.

You can use a controller just fine. You don't need to "click" on anything. There exists a Demo for you to test the waters.
