Thank you for your message and sorry to hear it you experience issues with your PS5 controller in Star Wars Outlaws.
Are you using any software to manage the controller on PC?
Is is happening with both, USB cable and wirelessly?
When I use Steam Input, I only get Xbox symbols. If I use DS4Windows, I encounter the described glitch—both with and without a USB cable.
I’ve also tried HidHide, but it doesn’t work reliably. It’s frustrating to spend time fiddling with HidHide and DS4Windows just to get PS4 symbols before I can play.
Why is there no native support for DS4 controllers? The Unity Engine already has built-in support for them.
Is there any way I can play the game with the correct symbols without having to troubleshoot this every time?
Dual Shock 4 controllers are officially supported by Star Wars Outlaws on PC.

It either does not work as expected or it is a matter of Steam controller settings.
Do you have any other USB accessories connected to your PC, apart from the mouse and keyboard?
Hey Ubi-Vinci,
Thanks for your response.
I have actively connected a mouse and keyboard via USB, both from Logitech. Additionally, there is a headset and a micro-USB cable to connect the PS4 controller (mostly used for charging).
I’ve tested the issue in the following ways:
1. Starting from Steam with SteamInput enabled and DS4Windows disabled
Result: I only get Xbox icons but no constant icon changes.
2. Starting from Steam with SteamInput disabled and DS4Windows disabled
Result: The controller is not recognized by Outlaws.
3. Starting from Steam with SteamInput disabled and DS4Windows enabled
Result 1: Emulating PS4 controller input, I get the constant icon change glitch.
Result 2: Emulating Xbox controller input, I have no issues but only see Xbox icons.
4. Starting from Ubisoft Connect with Steam not running and DS4Windows disabled
Result: The controller is not recognized by Outlaws.
5. Starting from Ubisoft Connect with Steam not running and DS4Windows enabled
Result 1: Emulating PS4 controller input, I get the constant icon change glitch.
Result 2: Emulating Xbox controller input, I have no issues but only see Xbox icons.
6. DS4 disabled, Steaminput disabled and PS4 controller connectied via USB cable
Result: works properly
But I don't want to use a cable like in the 90s ^^
Using HidHide worked for three game sessions, but now it no longer works.
Is there a debugging method I can use to identify the issues?
Thanks for all this effort.
I am not aware of any debugging you could use, sadly, however, I can pass all this to the game team to investigate.
Would you mind to record a video of the scheme switching and other issues related with the DS4 controller, please? It will be handy to include it in the report.
If you think screenshots are good to present it, include them as well.
it took a while because I was busy the last days.
Have a look at the video here. I hope sharing it with the dev team, helps to fix that somehow.

Let me know if you need more info.

Apologies for the late replay but thank you for your effort to record this video.
Please use our official Star Wars Outlaws bug reporter to raise this issue with the game team directly:

Make sure you include all your completed troubleshooting steps, so you are not advised to do it again.
Include the YouTube link.
If the game inputs switch while playing as well, you can add another video, to demonstrate the issue affects gameplay, and not just the settings menu.
I had the same issue and tried everything. I did find one thing that worked though and, I don't know if this will help you if you play the game via steam... I purchased the game through Ubisoft and when I play, I get the same issue, the ps5 dualsense edge controller icons keep flickering between controller icons and keyboard icons and the game controls dont seem to work properly as a result. I had to close down steam. Not just click the x in the top right but completely log out and then the game doesnt have any issues at all. As I mentioned though, if you play the game through steam this might not be possible but it does suggest that something in the Steam settings for the controller is causing the issue, some kind of conflict with the game. Try opening up the controller settings and seeing if there is a way to set the controller to game native settings instead of steam controlled and see if that helps.
Much appreciated.
I'm sorry to hear that you are also experiencing this issue with your Xbox controller.
Can you please confirm the following:
- Which Xbox controller are you using? (Xbox 360, Xbox One etc)
- What troubleshooting you have tried so far?
- What USB devices you have plugged in?
- Is the controller wired or wireless? And have you tried both methods?
I have three controllers, and all of them are having the same issue. It's like they're flickering between mouse and keyboard inputs. I've seen some people suggest closing Steam to fix it, but how can I close Steam if I'm running the game on it? I even spoke to someone who might have been able to help, but I didn’t fully understand what he explained. I'll share what he said here:
(Oh! Yeah. ♥♥♥♥, let me try to remember what I did. It was super annoying
[10:17]
oh yeah! The problem for me was I had a blutooth remote control with a gyro sensor in it. Basically, any time the game detected ANY other kind of mouse input, it would revert instantly to XBox controls, even if the remote was inactive
I had to basically unplug any input device except for one mouse
[10:18]
then it would let me use the PS5 controller, with full heptic feedback and the special triggers and everything
[10:18]
such a hassle
I think it means their controller was connected via a BT adapter that was detecting other signals or just didn't maintain a constant connection for the controller, so the game was switching between mouse&keyboard and the controller.
I do however see other players in this thread mention the issue would happen with a USB cable connection as well.
How is your controller connected?
