Cant start a "new game"

so uh after purchasing the game is there something further needed to play it. sit on a black screen and nothing happens

when you start the game for the first time, it asks a few optional questions about accessibility, then the game starts automatically, but it does take a long time to load for the first time, presumably while it compiles the shaders (but it shows the loading icon in the lower left)

the uplay app might be required i dont have the game but its a ubisoft game so it wouldnt surprise me

it worked ended up having like 45 minutes play time before it loaded

No worries i actually believe it was what 13x was referring to in regards to shaders, just ended up waiting a little longer and it loaded :)
