fresh install from windows. only updates driver and ubisoft software... only outlook for emails (but not running while playing)
I had two of my games crash constantly, Hitman WoA and Star Wars Outlaws. Both games have run flawlessly, until I installed the KB that optimises 3D V-Cache performance in Windows 11 23H2. After that, crashes every 5-10 minutes of play.
I tried to uninstall the update, but MS won't let you, because it's a kernel-level patch.
The only other thing in the last quarter that had changed in my software environment were driver updates along the way. Checking those I realised that with the last chipset driver update I accidentally installed AMD's 3D V-Cache Optimizer service. I run a Ryzen 7800X3D without a second CCX that necessitates core parking and don't need that service.
I deactivated it. The crashing stopped instantly.
My best guess is that MS' patch and AMD's service don't play together nicely.
Even if you run a CPU that requires core parking (7900X3D, 7950X3D), I'd try deactivating the AMD 3D V-Cache Performance Optimizer Service just to see what happens.
Sorry to hear it.
Is this the 24H2 version of Windows 11 you run on your laptop?
(type WinVer in the Start menu and press Enter to check your Windows version and build)
If yes, we are still waiting for the permanent solution to games crashing on this version.
If you already did a fresh Windows install, I would suggest considering downgrading to Windows 11 23H2 or even to Windows 10 for a while, until this is resolved for good.
Hey @TheDarkestSmurf. Thanks for the info on AMD's 3D V-Cache Optimizer service. I run myself an X3D version of an AMD CPU, so I'll keep an eye on that.
Great to hear it.
Is anyone else in this thread experiencing Star Wars Outlaws crashing on Windows 11 24H2 after the recent patch?
Also I assume if it's fixed here it's fixed in Avatar, right?
There was a temporary fix for Star Wars Outlaws (update 1.4.1), that seems to work for some players and doesn't for others. I'm not sure if this depends on the hardware or drivers version.
This temporary fix was only for Outlaws, not for Avatar.
The proper fix should not be far off, but it's your decision of you want to take advantage of the current sale.
You can consider (just a suggestion) going back to Windows 11 23H2 (if you can, or can find a link to ISO) or even Windows 10, as these systems are not affected, and update back to 24H2 once we have proper, permanent fixes in place.

As you must have seen in the thread, the game team is still working on a fix for the Windows 11 24H2 issue. Apologies for the situation.
Hey Drudgenaut
