Seems the game has garnered a poor and underwhelming score from the player base. It's a shame really for this fallen franchise.

See that's where you're wrong. Have you ever avoided buying a game because you watched a youtube review of a game you were planning to buy then didn't because you made a decision not to based on your formulated opinion? Metacritic score is no different. You don't have to own a game to review it.

If you want to make your own decision, that's OK, but if you haven't played the game, then your "review" is worthless, because you're either parroting someone else's opinion, or reviewing that person's video, not the game itself. All that does is create urban legends and spread misinformation.

Also, this allows review bombing by people with a political agenda or just to troll, with no financial investment. Steam reviews require you to put your money up and play some hours (that people can see) so they're more useful.

I have never brought or decided against buying t a game based on the opinion of someone who has never played it.
