Question: Ubisoft Account
The store page says you are required to have a Ubisoft Account to play this game.
So if Ubisoft goes bankrupt, which I assume everyone's Ubisoft Account will be wiped off at that point, can players still play the game on Steam?
Thanks.

They arent going bankrupt anytime soon, they are still operating at a profit

If they went bankrupt another game company would buy the right to their game libary.
It would be easy money to own like music rights.
So dont worry.
Shouldn't Uplay also be removed from future Steam releases or will that only happen with AC Shadows next year???

You would think so.

EA is also dropping the EA app requirement for Veilguard...hopefully we continue to see more of this.

ubisoft downright said gamers should get comfortable not owning their games they buy and they set an example by revoking and removing crew 1 from everyone's ubisoft account so yeah, once they go bankrupt, chances are all your games on your ubisoft account will be gone.

That was also a reason why I put the new Dragon Age on my wishlist. Dead Space Remake didn't have the EA app requirement anymore. If I buy it on Steam, then it should only be Steam.

With Uplay, I'm not sure whether that will also be removed from the Steam version. If so, that would be really nice.

Personally, it has never made any sense to me.

It should just be DRM-free like GOG.

Now rewind maybe a year ago and I would have said "nah mate, your games are safe".
But yea, I dunno - after everything that's been going on, I'm not sure any game is safe from any company, let alone Ubi that seems to be struggling the loudest right now, coupled with recent The Crew shenanigans.
My current stance is - if it is Ubi Connect required, I'm not buyin' it.

It's not just the annoyance, it's that Ubisoft has terrible security for Uplay. The service was hacked a decade ago and 50 million people had their info stolen, and then it was hacked again last December. The cherry on top is that Ubisoft has terrible customer service if your account is compromised in any way.

Uplay is not a professional service, and no one should be forced to use this trash to play a game.

Even though I have Ubisoft account I think last game I bought was Far Cry 5. Ain't buying anymore games that I can loose access to.

Steam, Uplay and Denuvo DRM. I can live without some games.

There is one new game they are publishing right now that doesn't require Uplay.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2717880/The_Rogue_Prince_of_Persia/

And I believe it is from the Dead Cells people.
they're more likely to sell their company to tencent or go private instead of just straight up bankrupt, i don't think the investor let that happen easily.

so don't worry about that

They better remove that requirement in all their games
since they are most likely going to be a dead company soon
im not spending money on a game that will be unplayable when Ubisoft shuts down

Tencent is looking to buy Ubisoft, so they aren't going anywhere, even considering the sequential catastrophic failures.

But if hypothetically Ubisoft imploded, their IP portfolio would be sold to pay whatever debts they might have, and the new publisher would maintain the Steam game you purchased.

It's extremely unlikely you would lose access to a game because a studio went under. Possible, but unlikely. Especially when it comes to the big players.
My Ubi account now has been hacked twice in a fortnight. Took me ages to get it sorted out and two days later it was hacked again by the same people (in Malaysia). How are the Hackers doing this? I would love to find out what Ubisoft are doing about it! And of course I can not play any games until it gets sorted out. And then I got to play SW Outlaws for about 48 hours before my account was hacked again and all the passwords changed!

ACT IMMEDIATELY!
probably hacker have access to your EMAIL tied to UBI ACCOUNT and it's just matter of time that they can take your email too if they already not succeded on this, so change IMMEDIATELY the password of your email enable 2FA and add a recover mobile number if you already not have done yet, last check all the trusted device of your email account check if there is in your account a forward redirect email and related IMAP/POP settings.
no matter how many time you recover your ubisoft account they will recover too cause they could have hijacked your email.
