I know this doesn't exactly answer your question, but I'm kind of curious about these sorts of things too. I want to get but my primary gaming method is a steamed deck so I've been curious if the game was steam deck playable or not because when you look at the store pages says unknown

I can only get it to run on Steam Deck (OLED) with Proton Experimental. And even then it crashed the game after about an hour. I'm very disappointed that we had to wait months for it to release on Steam, but Massive didn't update it to work on Steam Deck.

In this one hour. How is performance?

Well few hours in and it’s fine if you put it on experimental proton but it still crashes/freezes about every hour which sucks. Now there’s a new problem I’m experiencing every time I boot up the game it would say on Ubisoft launcher “unable to start game. This product cannot be activated right now, please try again later.” Sadly the game is broken on steam/ubisoft side. The only way to play if you download GforceNow in the deck but it requires WiFi connection for every session which I don’t like because I liked to game and want to play it on the go. I’ll say just wait a few more months

The game works fine on Steam Deck (OLED) with Proton GE, but the Steam Deck controls and the attached controllers do not work. Probably needs an update, but this is Ubisoft, they may not care about Steam Deck support and game updates for this device.

I know they can do it because I tried watch dogs legion and assassin’s creed Valhalla on the steam deck and both work well. Hopefully Ubisoft reconsiders on making Outlaws work on steam deck.

@Kaponomonter
Having the same issue. It launched once, regardless of the proton version. Reinstalled a few time but I'm always getting the issue like you : "cannot be activated"

@Suisse
Then I guess it a bug. After I first saw this I tried to see if it would happen in any other Ubisoft game Watch dogs legion and it boots up perfectly normal. Another weird think about when I was experiencing “the cannot be activated” problem, I lunched and game on gforce now and it boots up normal as well.

doesn't work on steam deck? sad... i would buy the game...
Gringlas Nov 22, 2024 @ 2:13pm
I'm able to play with attached keyboard and mouse.
I also got steam deck controls working one time, but then I wasn't able to actualy start the game as it seemed to be stuck in loading screen :( Sadly I don't know exactly what I did to get the controllers working.
Perfomance is okay for me - at least the first 20 minutes I've played so far...
I realy hope that they will try to get it working better on steam deck, because it is such a good title for it.

Switch layout to WASD and after you get the main screen switch back to gamepad. You will need to do this every time you launch it.
For me the game kept crashing after you crash land on the new planet and now I keep getting an unable to start error...

I will buy the game but only if it works fine on Deck…

It works quite fine on Steam OS 3.6 and GE Proton 9 20
