Yep, thats the reason why I dont buy their games (only exception is, or rather was The Division 2 (before they ruined that too with its latest update)).
Btw Steam has a increasingly (I guess) similar problem where some purely SP games are only playable for 2 weeks without a connection to steam (Ultimate Admirals Dreadnought is an example for that).
I guess many do not care about things like that bc they cant imagine or never experienced internet being not available (for whatever reason).
Another thing is its hard to keep track of all the outrageous things UBI does these days (the 'newest' that got traction lately is the 'forced to buy a DLC or start your game from scratch' in the "Avatar" game).
Been looking forward to something Star Wars, but this is putting me off. Oh well.
I guess I'll have to wait for Quantic Dream's QTE-laden game (if they're still working on it... site's still up but the silence is deafening). I liked Detroit: Become Human well enough. I don't know how well that format will translate to Star Wars, though. It doesn't quite match what I imagine of a game when someone mentions Star Wars to me.
The Force Unleashed 1 & Republic Commando (TFU:2 should be pulled off the store its completely broken) are good.
But I bought it years ago ... I guess you cant play it offline if you got it via the 'EA Play'-sub.
Whats also news to me is that it ever had Denuvo - but even if that were true: Denuvo is a kinda subscription like service, the cheapest variant is 25k $ per month (and per specific title) + 50 cent per sold copy.
Thats why they never not drop it at some point (at least for single player titles) bc there is no point in keeping it if sales (including DLC/MTX) do not cover the costs + some profits anymore.
Dont get me wrong, I hate the forced online (or 'only for a limited time offline') crap as much as you do but I think you look in the wrong direction in your search for the perp. ;)
Mass Effect 1 and 2 on steam also do not require it but ME 3 does as well as, as you said, the Legendary Ed.
Bc of that requirement I never bought ME 3 or the Legendary Edition, no matter how many percent I could save in a sale - I would'nt even take it for free bc of that.
Also: I would never buy anything on the EA storefront or use their subscription service. ^^
