Choose your team : Automatic or Manual?
I'm thinking about our US friends but also the younger ones in Europe (at least in France) as their are more and more used to Automatic GB (as an example, driving licence in France is cheaper if you choose to drive only automatic and with the raise of electric cars, manual GB doesn't make sense to them).

Now, my question:
Do you exclusively play with Automatic or you try (and enjoy?) Manual?

My personal answer:
I'm a "do it yourself" lover so definitely manual but i do enjoy the US-like cars of the game in Automatic :)

Whatever the answer, enjoy the game and the ride!

Cheers from France!

As a French, I like driving both...but I really like manual to confuse American people, look at me, I'm too smart for you

Joking :steamsalty:

Automatic for fuel saving and sh!t traffic and manual for everything else i guess.

Is there anything cooler than dropping a gear or two and overtaking that grandma in front of you? :winter2019joyfultearsyul:

This is the way!

Well I think Amazons The Grand Tour made it clear that to the French its just a tool.

Personally if I use it I prefer Auto acting realistic, moving off and random gear changes, the noise too. I find even in Beam its a bit too manual acting.

I prefer manual in real life, but automatic in beam. So much fun just sliding around corners wiothout worring about gears.

Depends on the car imo, easy to have fun with both manuals and automatics :)

Modern Automatics will use less fuel than Manual.
They are more efficient, what you are thinking about is the old 2-3-4 speed slush boxes.

No, automatics are always less fuel efficient than manuals unless you refer to DCTs, which are in fact automated manuals. The true automatic is defined by the torque converter, an inherently inefficient means of power transfer.
Even a DCT is incapable of accelerating from a standstill at anything other than maximum without excessive clutch wear, so you trade fuel efficiency for replacing clutches (plural) often.

A clutch is always more efficient in the hands of a skilled driver, and a proper manual is the most efficient method of power transmission. The fastest of these is the DCT, which trades reliability, robustness & longevity for speed.

If we are talking user comfort, the proper torque converter automatic is great - very little user input, so for people who just want to press a pedal and move forward without thinking about how to be efficient, quick or gentle on the motor (would describe most commuters), it is best.

I am not saying which is best overall, because the answer is none. Each has its merits and drawbacks.

Are you not aware that automatics have a lockup function on the Torque converter?
This has been a feature since the mid/late 80s.
And a modern auto has, often, more gears than a manual, which keeps the engine
in its efficient rpm range much better.
