beam won t launch anymore
Hello everyone,

Maybe someone can help me with this:
After the last update, beamng simply doesn t start anymore.
i click the play button, and it seems like it wants to start, but after processing vulcan shaders, it simply stops and turns the play button green again.
Skipping the shaders thing didn t work.
After making steam verify the integrity of the game files, it still didn t work.
And an our ago, i reinstalled it, but it still gives the same problem.

i managed to find the launcher that is triggered by the play button in steam, and executed it manually.
this makes the game start, but only uptill the UI.
once you try (for example) free roam; the game runs very poorly, and simply doesn t load any terrain or vehicle, and simply gets stuck while loading it all.

i always played beamng on my ubuntu desktop with proton installed by steam.
and it worked very well, until last update.

anyone who has the same issue, or maybe knows what to look for?
thanks for any tips

Hi Cyborg, if you search the web for "BeamNG.drive works great under Steam Proton" (without quotes) you will find a tutorial (dedoimedo) that's only 4 days old. In it the writer mentions it taking a long time for the Vulkan shaders (roughly 35 min), also says their running on Kubuntu 22.04. They also mention Beamng wanting to process the shaders every launch, which the writer skipped after the first launch.

Anyways, I hope you get it running again & can enjoy your play :)

thank you for your esponse :)

i followed the advice int the article and let it proces the vulcan shaders (it indeed takes a lot of time), but after that is on the 100%, the steam UI shows blue text next to the play button that says the game is launching.
then that blue text turns green when it says running.
and right after that, the proces stops and the play button turns green again :(

I know this may sound silly...have you read through the beamng log files to see if there are any errors/fails or warnings? Also, I read (just now) that someone had solved a Beamng/Proton issue by using the experimental version of Proton (this info was 14 days old).

I'm all out of idea's atm, the only other things I can think of, would be to search the web & maybe reach out to support...

somehow i can t find those files (or i m looking on the wrong spot :(
i tried the experimental version of proton (and even older versions, just to be sure) but that didn t worked out.

however: i just found out (https://documentation.beamng.com/known-issues/) that it states:
* All issues related to Vulkan are applicable to Linux

wich made me think: this is just a problem of the beamng version.
on Linux systems, the vulkan shaders/proton layer is nr1 priority to make it work.
the proton version (8.0-4) is also used for other games, and those work fine.
seems like this is just a problem between proton and beamng.

so... i guess (until someone else finds the solution) that i have to wait for an future update that erases the fault between those two. :(

thanks anyway for helping
