SteamOS/Linux version?
Nodeox1 said that Linux version is in the making. Is this official?

I see Nadeox1 is replying to many posts in the Discussions, is he developer?

Hello, a BeamNG dev here.

In addition to the reasons Nadeox1 presented previously in this thread i want to present some more information on the subject.

First of all this is not a done game. It is still heavily developed. As such, we cannot just "give" the current moment's source code to some external person/company to port it to Linux. As whatever he ports will be obsolete the next moment. Having said this, we are not indifferent to Linux. We use it heavily in our servers and we have people that love it (it has been my primary desktop for years).

We are also putting effort into keeping (parts right now) of the engine running under LLVM to take advantage of the static analysis tooling that it has. The whole physics core can be compiled under LLVM for example. The same applies for parts of the game engine.

So we are not standing still on the porting efforts, but we cannot promise anything or give a definite timeline. This is not an ordinary game. We are heavily multithreaded on the physics side, way beyond other "normal" game engines. We have had banana-bench results being shown to us, that were run on big data-server hardware, and we scaled up to all the CPUs in these silicon beasts. From a scaling PoV the game looks more like a realtime big data processing program (btw my field of expertise is on Databases and Big Data), than like a normal game.

In addition there is some serious amount of complexity inside the game. For example, our physics code is not some standard library that one can find an already made port for Linux.

There is a huge amount of complexity too.To be able to do realtime, soft body physics (no static meshes that is) at 2khz requires to take any other physics library and crank it to 11. So the physics library is a seriously complex piece of code, full of thread synchronization problems, SSE and other low level tricks on top of all the usual physics and other stuff that physics libraries do. It is really tricky code from a numerical analysis point of view too. So it requires some field knowledge to be able to work with it.

No no.
I never said it is in the making officially (and if I really did, sorry me then, I maybe had a brainfart or something x| )

Linux version was taken under consideration. There is a rough plan about that, but nothing has started yet. Maybe in a not-so-near future.

Also, I'm a team member, specifically Support.

Some people are able to play the game through WINE. It's not a guarantee, but might be worth trying with the Tech Demo.

Our Goals: ...We aim to bring our expertise in real time soft-body physics and soft-body physics model design to the forefront of game physics simulation, making available the technology and know-how to as a wide an audience as possible. To achieve this, we are designing the engine and corresponding assets, so as to be independent of the underlying game engine and Operating System.

So, what's the official statement about Linux version?

Linux version is inevitable but far from release?

More like:

'We are keeping an eye on it' :)

+1 for Linux Steam OS , I'm not planning to hold on forever to my vintage Windows game PC.

+1 Linux
No tux, no bux
I'll buy this one at least twice, but only on Linux, not wine.
lotw_1 2015 年 7 月 17 日 下午 3:09
No Linux version, No sale... This is the 21st century and all games should support Windows, Mac, and Linux. Otherwise I am no longer buying.

+1 for Linux. I don't mind paying for good games but it pisses me off to pay for a bad os.
