is there supposed to be multiple instances of the game running at the same time?

hi. i've been running worse than usual lately and when i check Task Manager. i see 7 instances of BeamNG in the main section and 11 more in the background processes. is this normal or what's going on. please help.

here's my specs if that helps.
Intel I5-8400 @ 2.8GHz.
16 GB of ram.
Nvidia GTX 1650 4 GB.

game is running on an external HDD. i just want to know if it's normal for the game to have these many instances at the same time.

just a side note. the main instances are pulling a total 60 to 80% of the CPU and the background process pulls the rest and is constantly 100%:ing my CPU.

update: i think it might be mod related. opened the game in safe mode and now i have 3 main instances and 1 background instance. will have to go through my mods and see what's causing it.
