Bad 0.39 graphics on Ultra settings
I know it seems a lot of people are really happy about this update, I've seen videos where everything is really nice for some, but it's not the case for everyone.

I've got an RTX 3070ti, with 8Gb of VRam, with an i5 - 13400F and 32Gb of Ram.
It's usually really good for a lot of game and I can max almost everything on a lot of game, even while using a WQHD monitor.

BeamNG wasn't the best looking game before but it was okay.
Now, between the low shadow resolution, the aliasing and the bluriness on everything, where shadows blend with foliage, the poor texture quality of rocks and all, etc...
0.39 just made everything worse than before (and simply unplayable to me)

I can see the work on lights, but it doesn't work under everything that looks bad.

I've installed the game 3 times since the update, deleted all mods and folders related to the game. Turned the options upside-down, tried dx12, dx11, vulkan, etc... Nothing makes it better.

It's not about performance, FPS is ok even with everything to Ultra and above, it just looks bad.

Am I missing something that could make my blurry soup of pixel into what MuYe seems to get ?

Same, everything is shimmery, as if I was using Ray Tracing.
Yes.. feels weird to have great lightings but terrible aliasing etc.. :steamsad:
Something is wrong with your game.
That is a possibility, but as I said, I've re-installed the game 3 times during the week-end, tried verifying the integrity of the files, deleted every folder to be sure there was no trace of any mods (I only had a few cars anyway), or any profile or settings remaining. Obviously my computer was restarted a bunch of times in the middle of that. Updated my GC drivers, checked Windows (11) updates. Messed with nvidia options, windows options, ... Still exactly the same result.

And this is the only games where I've got such problems. I'm playing other demanding driving games without any problems.

I hope I can find the problem, but seeing the comments I'm sure I'm not the only one and more and more sure that it doesn't come from me.
For the weird noise you get, try to set up Ambient Occlusion to "normal" as if you put the "Ultra" preset it is still set to "Normal" I suspect the high settings is buggued or not working properly yet

Other than that I got no solution for the terrible aliasing and weird shadows
The devs are likely working on getting TAA and subsequently DLSS/FSR implemented for an upcoming patch.

TAA (temporal antialiasing) comes with it's own set of problems (ghosting, blurring) but it solves more problems than it adds (shadow flickering, low precision dithering around ground scatters/foliage, aliasing, global illumination noise reduction).

So TAA is kind of mandatory for the direction the graphics are going now, but it hasn't been added yet.

Give the developers a bit more time to cook. Once TAA is added to the game's graphical options, a lot of these problems will be improved if not outright solved.
for me it is terrible when on ultra settings but that might be a compensation system for your gpu
I've actually had a problem where the lighting just...changes...it's different from one start up to the next, it started after the last hotfix-which broke hdr for me, hdr enabled just gives a washed out scene.

Then sometimes when I start the game, it looks fine, others, the lighting engine is clearly glitching out.

Also:
Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to the "Manage 3D settings" section, and look for the option to clear the shader cache.
My textures wont even load properly, I have them on max, and its only using 9/12gb of vram yet they just stay blurry.
as much as i dislike the new update, graphics look much better than before:

BUT it's no excuse for it to run like garbage.. beamng is 2011/13 game and should run 1080p 60fps on pre-2013 hardware.

WHY? because it's a 2011-2013 game! THAT IS WHY!

those who say "bUt iT wAs UpDaTeD rEcEnTlY" are just mis-informed and clearly DO NOT own eyes. look up "DRIVECLUB 2014" .. LOOOOOK AT THE GRAPHICS!
beamng doesn't get anywhere near that level, car games look near real-life in 2010+ already, cuz making HD car models and effects isn't that hard at all.

YES i like beamng graphics update
NO i do not like beamng's POOR optimization

if they can make it run smooth 1080p 60fps on pre-2013 hardware, THEN it would be well optimized. keep in mind that games that were released in 2014/15 started development 2-4 years BEFORE release, cuz games aren't made in 1 day.

MISCONCEPTION is that ppl think if game is released in 2026, then it has LATEST graphics .. that is WRONG, cuz once the core of game is done, which happens in EARLY days of development, then they're NOT going to change any of that, they will just build on top of that, which i ASSUME is exactly why beamng's performance has DROPPED so significantly in past 3 years or so.

they're building on top of 2011 code, which just doesn't work. they trying to patch it up, but unless they completely re-work the engine, it's never going to run smooth, which is WHY it is WASTING about 5x more resources than it should.

in my entire life i have only heard of ONE game that changed game engine, it was wreckfest 1, not even sure why they did it, cuz it was running smooth as it was. there HAVE been few others, but changing game engine is LOT of work, think of it like changing foundation under a huge skyscraper, it's POSSIBLE, but amount of work and effort goes into it, is insane. so most devs just keep patching the old code and it becomes more and more unstable and resource heavy, not cuz its "latest", but cuz it's OLD and obsolete code that needs "training wheels" to run properly, which requires heavy resource usage, that's WHY beamng runs poorly.

if beamng was well optimized, it would run smooth as butter even on 10+ year old mid-tier hardware.
