Vulkan is dead after hotfix?
Am I the only one who can't load a map using a Vulkan?

No problems so far on my side with vanilla and mod maps.

I read somewhere that on steam deck vulkan is used already.

Yes, Proton makes DX Games Run in Vulkan

I am on Steam Deck. If I put in the Vulkan launch option I get the error message that BeamNG tried to allocate 32 GB RAM. That's not possible since the deck has 16 GB RAM only.

The thing I don't understand, if I launch with -gfx vk, then I get this error.
If I put the Steam Deck in desktop mode, run Beam from inside Steam there and select the Vulkan option, it loads just fine

I've since noticed, if I launch in desktop mode but still use the -gfx vk parameter, the game still launches.

There seems to be a specific Steam Deck game mode issue with running Beam on Vulkan

trivia:

- X11 WILL render your frozen window frame, which is how you get screen tearing.
- xwayland will NOT render your last frozen window frame and will default to a black screen, which is how you get screen flickering or blinking.

there are two ways to mitigate this:

- in beamNG’s display settings, enable VSYNC and limit FPS to your monitor’s refresh rate
(unfortunately, this DOESNT help much, but it greatly reduces such flickering)
- log out from your session into your desktop manager (e.g. SDDM - your login screen) and choose the X11 session from there
(X11 will be more laggy than xwayland, but instead of screen flickering, you will get screen tearing lol)

so right now on steam deck you can play it natively only in desktop mode

...

for beamng's native (vulkan) binary, create a shortcut from here:

~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/BeamNG.drive/BinLinux/BeamNG.drive.x64
