PSA: VERY LOW FPS/NOT USING GPU POSSIBLE FIX WHEEL USERS
So a while back after an update, for whatever reason i couldnt get anymore then 5-10fps. I deleted all mods, launched in vulkan and safemode, fresh install everything. Couldnt figure it out. Today I decided to try messing with it, and while loading in and sitting with my car off, my wheel was going wild. To keep it from breaking my arms or shaking my rig apart I went to the ffb options to try checking things, turn it down, something. anything so i was able to actually try figuring out wtf was going on with my game.

idk why, but just by random chance, the 1st thing i did was check "invert ffb". then i unchecked it so it was back to "normal". after that? my gpu finally actually started doing something and I was back to a solid 60...I have no idea why this was a thing, or what the issue was, as this didnt even become a problem until one of the latest updates like a month or 2 back. but it worked.

after hours of googling back then today, I never could find anyone having the same issue as me, that being 5fps with 1% gpu utilization. so I figured I would throw this on here in case anyone else happens to have the same random issue as me and tries finding a "fix". So far, I cant say how "permanent" of a fix this is, but it is running right again finally as of now. For reference, my wheel is a simagic alpha mini.

Edit: After some testing this issue seems 100% related to ffb update rate. If having this issue, set the update rate from "automatic" to either 333hz or 400. After doing this not only has the issues gone away and ive started getting over 100fps, but ive notice other issues have been resolved. I load in so much quicker now, and my wheel no longer freaks out while loading in as well.

check to see if your game is running in borderless windowed and not fullscreen, it could be confused and thinking the game is somehow in the background so it doesn't give it full utilization, this was a fix for me atleast when my FPS was confusingly low, also sometimes Vsync can do iffy things.

I tried borderless and fullscreen. The only thing that seems to work, for whatever reason, is inverting my ffb, and then switching it back. Ive found i have to do it every time i switch maps, sceneros or whatever. Basically every time i load in to something different.

I honestly have no idea why. It makes no logical sense. The only thing i can even remotely think of is, for whatever reason, beamng has stopped playing nice with simagics software. And even then i cant think of a reason why a ffb setting would prevent my gpu from doing, well anything at all. I just know, fir some reason, it works and has worked every time.

Edit: Decided to play around some more, and turned ffb totally off. My FPS went to over 100 from the teens. Turned it back on and driving around freeroam im getting around 75-85fps pretty concistently, with some dips and gain fluctuations.

So, the issue seems to be 100% tied to ffb for some reason. Polling rate is currently set to automatic, but i may play around and set it to 300-400hz, which is around what most sims run i believe. Could be an issue where its defaulting way higher, as the options are there, and its freaking out the engine.

Haven't got any improvements on the Steam Deck, neither with inverting FFB, nor with setting the update rate to low values manually (at best the lowest speed approaches the performance of the Automatic setting; but most values actually make it much worse). But maybe it's some other setting I changed somewhere that's getting in the way. Can someone else with a Deck please check if it really doesn't help there either?

Are you using a sim wheel with the steam deck? This is for an issue thats happening with ffb while using a wheel specifically. Im not sure how well this game would run on the deck, but i know theres a specific graphics setting for the steamdeck. Using that is probably gonna make it as good as it can be.

FFB becomes rumble/haptics if you play with controllers. If you tune it just right, while still far from ideal, it does give a little more feel about the ground and what the car is doing.

Hi, thank you for this advice.
I have a 4070 ti super and i get also 10 fps on BEAM NG, and in all other simulation games , i'm over 150 fps ... i didn't found the solution and had desinstalled BeamNg.
I'm also on Simagic wheel, so I will try your tip this week-end.
Anyway, thank you for this new investigation way
You the goat for this thank you
