I'm surprised no one has posted it yet. At the top of the screen where it says "Community", there's a drop-down box that should say "Mods", click on it to take you to the mods page and the forums everyone's talking about. These are maintained and actively moderated by BeamNG developers and is safe. If you doubt this, I got the link from the the recent announcement page where the MD-Series was released. The link is located at the bottom of the page.
Modland uses stolen assets, most often of which are paid, which is a detriment to mod creators. These "really good car models" are usually just that and play or deform horribly, and you run the chance of the mod having a virus or something worse. CEO of air pollution is right to tell you to only use the Repo or the BeamNG forums.
