cores or cache for the most traffic?
dunno if i should get the 7800x3d or the 7900x, i plan on having about 20 traffic cars (simplified or not depending on performance) would the 7800x3d be better or worse for this? does the cache help?

7800x3d

its not really one or the other. they both go hand in hand. afaik, traffic is ram dependent, which boils down to mainly cache for modern processors. you want to increase the speed at which you can process data from ram.

im not the most familiar with amd, but i think the 7900x also has that weird split core design that will not do you any wonders, since you have lag for when data has to travel between the sections.

you should see higher performance with the 7800x3d across the board. i dont know if the 7900x is better in literally any game

if you are dealing with a decent amount of productivity workloads, i would recommend the 13900k/14900k. if you do ONLY gaming more than 90% of the time (and more so if you dont need to buy a new motherboard as well), get the 7800x3d.

Chad thats not accurate what you said about ryzen having a split core design, intel is the one with a split core design, they have 8 performance cores and a few economy cores and they are not all created equal. Intel does have hyper threading yes but depending on the cpu, not always on the economy cores, and those economy cores wont help for BeamNG when your running 20 cars which is a lot.

What i have found and what i have seen with several people is that the more cars on the map the more cpu cores/threads you need. Its not ram dependent at all. I have seen people with tons of ram, 32-64gb of ram, even with an rtx 4090, but this guy had a intel 6 core cpu, and he was struggling to get 30fps with 10 cars on the screen. So all the ram and best GPU isnt gonna help the lack of cores.

IMO the 7900x will be better because its 12 cores and 24 threads where as the 7800x3d is still an 8 core and 16 threads at heart. the 3D V cache has its uses in specific work loads, but for BeamNG, the more cars you put on the screen the more threads its going to need, thread/core count is more important to beamng than ram or gpu.

Hope that helps
