short answer - if you like realism (realistic physics) and you're ok with sandbox games, then YES it's totally worth it.
it highly depends what you expect from the game. it's a sandbox vehicle simulator, but offroad and rally physics are rather bad. also there's no dust/dirt that sticks to vehicles.
i've been making videos on BeamNG since it was first made available and after 10+ years it's STILL in early access, this should tell you something about the game already.
I used to do daily BeamNG videos, but i got frustrated with constant bugs, that's why i barely even touch the game anymore. almost every update breaks something.
only reason why i still have it installed, is for the unique vehicle physics that beamng offers, no other game offers this. wreckfest has visually realistic damage, but rest is arcade. while beamng is realistic in almost every way.
damage is most realistic i have ever seen for sure, but also generic vehicle physics. if your fuel tank gets damaged, fuel starts leaking and there's a risk of catching fire.
if your radiator gets damaged, engine starts to overheat.
same with oil pan, if it gets damaged, oil starts to leak and eventually engine jams up.
unlike other vehicle games, in beamng vehicles actually get their torque from wheels themselves.
that's only reason why beamng is so unique and popular, but i don't really consider it as a "game", it's more like a simulation sandbox, where you can test drive various vehicles just for fun. .. or destroy them!
Personally I barely experience bugs and when I do these are usually easily worked around, as for performance it depends on hardware and it's hard to predict so it's a more a thing you check out yourself, if it's not up to your standards you can refund it as long as you have less than 2 hours of playtime.
This game being worth or not the price really depends on how you view sandbox and everything else the game has to offer, crashing cars repeatedly will get boring quickly, however exploring different maps, car builds/customization, mods, scenarios, time trials and the upcoming career mode should be pretty fun.
There is also a multiplayer mod (beamMP) if you're into that sort of thing.
