Modland and any 3rd Party Website won't check it's content for Viruses, i wouldn't suggest to download it from any of those sources.
But if you do so anyway, you may use your antivirus to scan the downloaded files before opening them. MS Defender is capable of doing such a thing, but it's very unsecure.
The safest way to use such mods is, to load them on a Virtual Machine and play on this machine instead. A good tool for people w/o much knowledge VirtualBox.
