how's your VULKAN experience?
I don't know if it's just karma, fate or just the fact that I didn't finish my plate.
Sometimes the game with Vulkan goes really well, sometimes it just doesn't work at all.
start the game with vulkan and it crashes before the main menu.
sometimes only when loading the map.
sometimes only when driving off.
no matter whether with or without VR.
Before the 0.30 update, Vulkan worked better, I used it often because thanks to Vulkan I was able to use the ultra preset with an average of 80-120 fps even online with 10 players, whereas in normal mode it barely runs stable at 60 fps with the normal preset

I'm going crazy, this upsets me, it can't be true

the computer is cold, ram is empty, even vram is not really being used.

Today I even completely formatted a 256gb nvme and ONLY installed beamng on it. even without any mods. no matter what you do!

:beamng:

i7-8700 (4.3Ghz) max. ~65°C @ ~45-80% usage
RX 6700 XT (nonOC) max. ~60°C @ ~64-76% usage / ~7,2 of 12GB
MAXIMUS X HERO max. ~40°C
H110i (full spin) max. ~31°C
2x 16GB 3200 FuryBeast ~15.9GB usage
SAMSUNG 960 (aluplate cover) max. ~29°C @ ~0.4ms/0% usage

I'm giving up using VULKAN for now.. :headbash:

Could be your amd card. Probably isn't playing nicely with Vulkan. Could be wrong though.

but vulkan did a great job before... fr

Absolutely unplayable. 10-20 FPS where I usually have 80. I only tried it once before and it was bad, but nowhere near as bad as it is now. I'm on Nvidia, it's not your GPU, it's the renderer. Also loads extremely slow on Vulkan.

Vulkan runs better for me, however it crashes after around 5 - 10 mins of game play. Sometimes less. Tried fresh installs on different drives. Tried both with VR on and off, it crashes for both for me unfortunately.

2700x
6700xt
32GB ram
Tried on an NVME, a SSD and an older HDD. Same with all of um.

I think its an AMD issue but who knows. Most people saying the VR is working great seem to be using Nvidia cards.

I've also tried 4 sets of drivers from the newest going back through to the last 3 older ones. Same issue. :(

Edit: Thought I should add - I recently reinstalled windows around 2 weeks ago. So my system is pretty clean in that regard. No issues with other games, and the non-vulkan renderer works fine.

I haven't compared it to directx properly, but it seems to run about the same for me, and so far has been rock stable. The only thing I don't seem to be able to get working is VR, but I have a WMR headset so that complicates things apparently.

When going to run the game in Vulkan mode with VR I immediatly get an error stating

"Fatal-ISV assert failed at file:
D:\jenkins\workspace\gameengine\build\gameengine\engine\graphics\backends\vk\vkdevice.cpp
Line: 679

Message: 'Failed to find a suitable Vulkan Device'

Click Ok to shutdown"

I have re installed the game and still get the same error, I am on the most recent build of the game as of 8:09 EST. I have no idea what to do from here. Could someone help?

all i know it that u have to set "SteamVR" as ur OpenXR runtime when using WMR but im not sure, i'm using a Vive..

what's your GPU? some older cards doesnt support vulkan at all as far as i know

for me there's basically huge lack of performance/stability with both Dx & Vulkan :headbash:

yeah nice.. there are ppl with 4090 and same problems..

idk whats the matter here

btw today vulkan ran bugfree at both VR and flat hmmm

So far no problems. For monitor I play with framerate locked to 144hz so both directX and Vulkan have no impact directly on FPS. I do see around 8% - 10% more gpu usage while on vulkan but nothing crazy bad.
For VR I get stable 90fps on medium settings and no supersampling.
The one thing that can really break the game is to need more Vram than you have available, and thats a real problem because aparently the game has not been able to flush cached memory, so it only goes up with every map you load and every vehicle you spawn.
Restarting the game for a map change has worked great for now. And that is something fixable from the devs side.
Another tip for vr players, do not use automatic resolution on steamVR, you might need to test whats the best value for you, but set the resolution to no more than your HMD native, and maybe even lower. That makes a huge impact on Vram usage. And again, restart your game after you try a new resolution to make sure the memory got flushed.
Specs:R5800X3D, RTX2080ti, 32gb ddr4 3200mhz CL16, Asus B550M-Plus, Reverb G2.

For me, it works perfectly, there is some left to be desired with the QOL within the VR, I cant figure out how to move the UI widgets around or just shut them off while in the car, I want to map recenter button to my controller some how but I cant figure that out. Im running over 120FPS on ultra settings everywhere and I get virtually zero frame drops or lag. Coolest thing I have ever done with a computer.

heres me noodling around on the dunes.

AMD user here 6900xt. I have had zero crashes in VR. I've probably put around 4 hours in the VR mode so far.

I had not played the game for a while before this update so i did a completely fresh install of the game and wiped all my user data and settings.

I have a 3090 game runs fine perfomance wise but constantly crashes due to not enough system memory (16gb is not enough).
Adolfo Bisi Sep 23, 2023 @ 2:38pm
I'm a VR user since 2013 with the first DK1 from oculus. Yesterday was the first time i got a legit headache for using the HMD for so long. Probably went more than 10h non stop. This game is amazing!!

4080/13900K , still have to run on low settings to maintain 90fps.
That said , it's alot of fun and it got me back to this game. Looking forward to better optimization and the experience to keep on improving.
